Rails - Aug 2005 - Hash keys: symbols vs. strings (again)

I just don''t get it :-( Looking at the Rails sources, sometimes hash 
keys are normalized to strings (stringify_keys), sometimes to symbols 
(symbolized_keys), and at other times keys are made indifferent 
(with_indifferent_access).

What''s the right way to normalize and access entries in options hashes 
in my own helper methods?

As I understand it, things like HashwWithIndifferentAccess are
''historical'',
so you should use symbols for your own things (unless you are hvaing to 
merge your arrays with others of that type..messy!).

By historical, do you mean deprecated?
