Hi all, I''ve just finished another ruby/rails application (Following smallr.com and syntax.carldr.com), and thought you guys might want a look. Fed up of being emailed "hot" links by friends and co-workers, only to find out that you’ve already visited it weeks before? Well, with oldnewsbaby.com, you can tell them exactly how out of the loop they are. When you visit a page which you think will become the “next big thing”, you click a bookmarklet and we record when you visited it. Then, when at sometime in the future, someone tells you about it, you can send them a link back telling them just how behind the times they are. Yeah, it’s very simple and geeky, and has taken perhaps 3 hours from starting it this morning to get it to where it is now. Check it out at http://www.oldnewsbaby.com/ Comments and suggestions are welcome! Regards, Carl.
This is really cool. One feature request: Can you provide an RSS with things people add? :) On Apr 10, 2005 10:48 AM, carl <carl-CZ32reIrJxPQT0dZR+AlfA@public.gmane.org> wrote:> Hi all, > > I''ve just finished another ruby/rails application (Following smallr.com > and syntax.carldr.com), and thought you guys might want a look. > > Fed up of being emailed "hot" links by friends and co-workers, only to > find out that you''ve already visited it weeks before? > > Well, with oldnewsbaby.com, you can tell them exactly how out of the > loop they are. > > When you visit a page which you think will become the "next big thing", > you click a bookmarklet and we record when you visited it. Cool. 1. Add remove capability for a mistyped url. 2. Have the bookmarket do its thing while keeping user on the same page. _______________________________________________ Rails mailing list Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails
I really like this! Just a few suggestions: - I know you provide the link back to the page added as "you first visited ___" but it''d probably also help to create a "back" button (more obvious). - How about summaries of the previous day''s most popular sites for everyone to see and visit? Heh, me too. I guess it''s kinda tricky determining if an URL with a trailing slash is the same as one without... http://www.oldnewsbaby.com/url/85e8e978c676e9e1a8bce59f37fc9697/pauln
I just visited it, and I''m the first! See http://www.oldnewsbaby.com/url/eaf0e8b860805057d590c078498306de/sutch. Maybe www.oldnewsbaby.com <http://www.oldnewsbaby.com> can store the canonical URL for each page? - Dennis On Apr 11, 2005 10:44 AM, Paul Nicholls <paul.nicholls-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org> wrote:> > Heh, me too.
