Jonathan added to the proposal the following definition: ARTIST for information to be displayed on systems with limited display capabilities. it is not a replacement for the ENSEMBLE and PERFORMER tags, but typically will summarize them. As I understand the aim is to provide more compatibility with players (especially portable) that are so dumb as to display only "ARTIST", in a hardcoded way. That's not a recommended design anyway, but let the tag exist. It also reduces the tension with v-comment.html, which specefies ARTIST. Most simple GUIs for users that don't care about separating PERFORMER / COMPOSER / CONDUCTOR / etc. (Jonathan, did you mean those instead of PERFORMER / ENSEMBLE?) will probably use ARTIST no matter what this propasal says anyway... A suggestive UI, like a pull-down box of the more specific tags near the artist field should be recommended IMHO. <p>P.S. "The remaining tags are multiples;..." line has bogus indentation, making it barely noticable. It's correct as a first line of a paragraph but maybe the tag lists should pushed right to make a clearer separation... While at this, why the "last appearance should be used" on singletons? As a human I would naturally look on the first as the most significant... -- Beni Cherniavsky <cben@tx.technion.ac.il> <p><p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body.
