I've tried a few things, but can't seem to track down the problem.
it's leaving core files in my package directory. (not in the .Rcheck
directory, directly in the package dir)

Don't really know but you could see if the info in Avoiding R Bugs section on the http:/r-proto.googlecode.com page applies, particularly the first point on Lazy Loading. The issue is that it cannot load your package, and it seems the error is in C++ code in the package or a dependency. You've given use very little to go on beyond that. -- Brian D.
