The version on my system (automake-1.4) does have an entry for alphapca5[67], so I guess the config.sub that comes with R just needs to be replaced with an up-to-date version. You're on a Debian system like myself? The automake 1.4 sources do not have that, but the versions in /usr/share/... do, same for libtool. Anyway, I just realized that autoconf is available by anonCVS, and that the most current versions of the config.guess and config.sub scripts are always in the CVS tree. Will update the versions in the sources.
