Gluster users - Jan 2012 - How does Gluster distribute files?

Does anyone know the algorithm logic gluserFS uses to distribute files across
bricks?

I'm trying to figure out the algorithm for replicated/distributed mode. How
does Gluster use the hashing? Does the hashing happen on the file name or the
complete file path?
