It seems that the official packages for Slackware have problems. I installed one of these and tried running some games - they dont start! After compiling my own version on a 32bit environment, I could not start winecfg, it complained about $HOME/.wine made for a 64bit version of wine. Can someone please check this? The package is pretty useless if its not true 32bit. Strange thing is, that the version from the package can run some 32bit applications, but not all of them.
There are two versions of wine for Slackware: i486 and x86_64. If you're running Slackware 32-bit, you need to download and install the one under i486, not the one under x86_64. http://sourceforge.net/projects/wine/files/Slackware%20Packages/1.3.35/ There are two directories as you can see, one for i486 and the other for x86_64. I'm guessing you downloaded the wine version in x86_64.
