samba - Aug 2006 - w2k + xp clients password change freezes the client

Hi.

I've a problem changing the password of the domain user directly from
the windows client by using strg+alt+del.
If I try to change the password, the client freezes for several minutes
and after this amount of time
a popup appears with this error: The DOMAIN isn't available.

In the the samba logs I see this error:

can't connect to service "USERNAME"

this is the GLOBAL part of my smb.conf:

password chat must fit exactly to the password chat which is produced
by passwd on the system where samba is running.
