samba - Mar 1999 - Samba 2.0.3 & AIX 4.2.1

Has anyone gotten this release of Samba(2.0.3) to install on AIX 4.2.1 using
the AIX C compiler? I get the following error when I run the configure
script:

[/usr/local/lib/samba-2.0.3/source]# ./configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... cc
checking whether the C compiler (cc -O ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot
create executables.
