Hi all,
I'm very new to this samba. I'm running samba on Sparc 10 with
Solaris
2.4.
Here is my smb.conf
workgroup = UNIX-NFS
[homes]
writeable = yes
write ok = yes
I'd like to share a directory to PC network from Unix box, read and
write access only to users who have accounts on the Unix box.
In windows 95's network neiborhood, I can not access to the group. I
can see it, but get error when double-click on group name.
Please help.

If I make additions to smb.conf ( add new share ) would I have to restart nmbd and smbd ? for the changes to take effect ?.
Kamal Ahmed wrote:> > If I make additions to smb.conf ( add new share ) would I have to restart > nmbd and smbd ? for the changes to take effect ?.YES ! Rerun nmbd/smbd ! Perhaps a tiny script will help you - but once you have samba running you won?t change anything once a day... kind regards juergen

Hi
I have problem with samba server. My server is running fine and I can see my
samba server through windows machine. I can join the workgroup on samba server.
Also my samba server is able to join wondows 2000 domain. Only problem I have
browsing my windows clients or server on samba. I use xsmbrowser GUI interface
to to browse my network. I can see my windows clients, but I can't browse
them. It gives me error "NO SHARED OFFER". I also check through the
terminal and there was error "ERRDOS" something "unable to browse
return". If anyone know who to fix this problem please send me smb.conf
file configuration lines I need to use in my smb.conf file. My e-mail is
villaboy25@netzero.com. I will appriciate your help.
Thanks

I was hoping someone could explain how to add a Samba file server to a network that has several OS's. I have Netware 5.1 servers with Windows XP,2000,NT4,98 and 95 desktops. I would like all users to be able to have a home directory on a a Linux box running smb. I don't want to eliminate the Netware server as it also runs my Groupwise MTA and POA. So if anyone has a sample smb.conf file that would work I would love to see it. Novell licenseing cost would kill my budget if I tried to and another one of their servers. Thanks in advance...
Dear all, In the samba installation, I have no problem found, but after I config the smb.conf to be a print server, it also can print out my document, but I cannot see the print job in my printer. In my printer , it prompt up some access denied. BUT I still can print out my document, do you know why, would you please tell me how to config a print server with samba correctly? Thanks for your kindly help Eric -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed
Ok when I use swat to configure my smb.conf file it seems to work, but when I try to read my smb.conf file with vi, its empty. Now if I delete this file, samba won't start. When I recreate it with swat samba will start but I still cannot read it with an editor. Can anyone tell me why I can't read this file after swat writes to it. Thanks
How can I tell samba to look in /etc/samba for smb.conf? Right now testparm defaults to the '/usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf'? And having two copies is annoying. Im sure its so simple that Im overlooking it. Kev
Yes, the samba install that comes with OS X is no different than any other samba binary. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Raj Saxena" <rajan@ipisland.com> To: "Samba" <samba@lists.samba.org> Sent: Tuesday, September 02, 2003 3:05 PM Subject: [Samba] mac os 10.2.6 smb server> > Hey Guys, > Is it possible to install samba as a server under 10.2.6 underthe> mac os? i know it works as a client but if i want to make it a windowspdc?> > Any help or knowledge is appreciated. > > Raj > > --- > Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. > Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). > Version: 6.0.512 / Virus Database: 309 - Release Date: 8/19/2003 > > -- > To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the > instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba > >
