new feature in 2.2.6 ?
Hi Jerry et al, will the 2.2.6 release show the printers in the 'add-new-printer-wizzard' on the client like the WINDOWS server do ? I'm not sure if you know what I mean, so here is a little illustration: ----------------------------- | NTSERVER | | \\ntserver\printer1 | | \\ntserver\printer2 | | \\ntserver\printer3 | | SAMBASERVER | | NTWORKSTATION | | \\ntworkstation\printer | ---------------------------- The SAMBA server only shows the printable shares after clicking on it...

samba, win98, and browse list problem.
Hello, Here's a repost on my message of a few days ago, for reasons that I'm not sure if it went through. If it did, my apologies, all suggestions welcome. I'm having an identical problem on slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and windows 98-2, with sp1, and samba 2.05 and 2.06, depending on which system I've got up. Whenever I restart samba for whatever reason, making a

Printing using a different NT account
...account for printing so that they can disable the Guest account. The printer scripts have been changed to add the -U UNIXPRT option, but no matter what syntax we try to use, the -U option is ignored and the connection is made via the Guest account. I have tried all of the following: smbclient //ntserver/printer1 -UUNIXPRT -N -P (when UNIXPRT did not have a password) smbcliebt //ntserver/printer1 -UUNIXPRT%PASSWORD -N -P smbcliebt //ntserver/printer1 -UUNIXPRT%PASSWORD -P The result of all of the above is a login into the Guest account for printing I have also tried smbcliebt //ntserver/printe...

Diagnosis Tests - Failed #5
...4.0 side of things I can see the machine (with the correct name) if I do NET VIEW or look in the Network Neighborhood. However, when I do "NET VIEW \\SambaServer" I get an Error 5 Access Denied. (Test 8) So I started on the diagnosis and got to Item 5. When I issue "nmblookup -B ntserver '*'" I get back the IP Address of the Samba Box. I'm guessing that's not what I should get back. I'm guessing I should get back the IP Address of the "ntserver". I have host allow set to ALL (do I need to do something else? I didn't quite understand that p...

tail -f doesn't work on a smbfs mount
I mount a WinNT share using a samba client version 2.2.5: smbmount -t smbfs -o username=user //ntserver/share /logs Then I want to watch a log generated by Internet Information Server (IIS) that grows continually: tail -f /logs/zzz.txt I can see the last lines in file zzz.txt the first time, but I don't get the new lines that are appended in such file. From any windows station I have no pro...

Unable to join samba server to a NT4 style domain
Hello, I have installed Samba version 3.0.13 on a Solaris 9 machine and am trying to add it to an existing NT domain as a member server. I have followed the instructions in Chapter 2 of the Samba HOW-TO collection for adding a samba server as a Domain member. The problem is that when i use the net rpc join command to join the domain, I get the following error: # ./net rpc join -U

Using SMB for web authentication
...rver does user/group validation by connecting NT-domain server. 4) User gets the page if uname/passwd were correct. I thought about using SMBlib for this validating system. Is there a good/easy way to validate users with smblib and how to actually do it? Do I actually need to connect some share (\\ntserver\public) to get user validation or can I just do some _generic calls_ without actually connecting to any share? And how to get group information from NT-domain? Like: User only in admin group can access this web page. Do I need to create _fake shares_ for all groups, say \\ntserver\group1, \\ntserv...

Bug in smbmount?
Local software is: samba-client-2.0.7-4 samba-common-2.0.7-4 samba-2.0.7-4 on RH 6.2 plus fixes, kernel is 2.2.16-3 NT server is 4.0 SP4 As root I can mount an NT share onto the Linux system: /usr/bin/smbmount '//ntserver/myshare' /mnt/test -o username=mylinuxuser, password=something, uid=myntuser, workgroup=CMP But the mount point gets forced to mode 555 instead of 755. It's not an NT write permission being expressed because as root on linux I can write to the mounted directory (touch a file, etc.), but not...

net rpc vampire

I've been through several readme's and howto's and have created all the UNIX accounts, mapped unix groups to Windows groups etc and the NT4 server sees it as a BDC. When I run: net rpc getsid -S NTserver -W SCHOOL -Uuser%password (and the credentials aren't the real ones there) I get: Storing SID S-1-5-WHATEVER-THE-SID-IS for Domain SCHOOL in secrets.tdb If I then run: net rpc vampire -S NTServer -W SCHOOL -Uuser%password it returns "could not retrieve domain trust secret"...

using smbmount for NT share
I posted a previous thread about using smbmount, but I am still having some problems, using samba version 2.0.5a on SuSE 6.2. I issue the statement: smbmount //NTServer/share /mnt/test -Iaddress -Uid%pswd Afterwards, if I go to the mount directory, i.e. 'cd /mnt' and issue the command 'ls -l' I get an error message 'ls: test: Input/output error'. After that, the mount point is pretty much hosed until I reboot the server (I haven't look...

rsync windows -> unix still hanging :(
I spent about 12 hours today writing a nice backup system based on Mike Rubel's snapshot system; but much to my dismay, when I took it for a test drive, I found that rsync hung on the first large directory I tried to back up. Aiee! A few web searches later, I realized that a lot of folks have seen this problem. I saw one proposed fix...

smbclient does not show.....
Hi, this is a new user who is trying to reach the local network, managed by a windows NT server. I have edited my smb.conf file (which I include) so to be able to reach the network drives and the printers on the ntserver locally. When I try to see what is available using smbclient at the prompt, I cannot see which are the Services available (sharename fields empty), but I do see a lot of things on the server (see Sambalog included) . My simple question is whether I have forgotten anything in my smb.conf file. Ple...
