Greetings all, and Happy Hollidays. I have read the FAQ's extensively, and I am still having some minor problems, so if this problem has a simple solution, please forgive my ignorance. I have compiled and installed SAMBA-1.9.18p10 on a SPARC station. When I run smbclient -L Hostname it allows me to log in and shows the correct shares. However, when I try to map the drive (on the Sparc station) from an NT machine, it does ask for a username and password, but then I get the error message "The account does not have authorization to login from this station" I do not have any host allow or host deny parameters in the smb.conf file. My configuration file follows: [global] log file = /var/log/samba-log.%m lock directory = /var/lock/samba share modes = yes browseable = yes admin users = matthew force directory mode = 755 force user = matthew netbios name = Hobbit security = USER [homes] comment = Home Directories browseable = no read only = no writeable = yes create mode = 0755 path = /mnt/WWW/ delete readonly = yes This configuration is supposed to be simple, all I am trying to do at this point is get a share name, that I can map to from NT. I will get more complicated as I get more comfortable with the functionality. If you have any suggestions from your experience that will help performance for what I am trying to accomplish, I would greatly appriciate it. Hello, I am having problems getting Samba to work on my system. I have a Sun Ultra Enterprise 450 running Solaris 2.7. I have downloaded the latest version with cvs. It configures correctly but crashes during make. Has anyone had a problem with this? Keith Lynn
hello, i still have problems with my samba-server after various general configuration-changes. i can not connect any client to the server. there is no way with win 95 or nt nor with the linux-server itself. i work with three machines runnig win 95, nt and linux (kernel 2.0.36) with the local ip addresses 192.168.0.1 (linux), 192.168.0.2 (nt) and 192.168.0.3 (win95). i use samba version 2.0.5a. i have enabled encrypt passwords = yes and build a smbpasswd file with the mksmbpasswd.sh script. after that i have changed the passwords for the valid user. my smb.conf declares two sections. one [home] for the user and a [public] for central storage of data and access for every valid user. a copy of my smb.conf is attached. the problem is that i can not connect to my server. if it is running as local master it looks like no browse list is send to the other computers. because there is a browse list in the /var/lock/samba/ directory but no computer is shown in the workgroup. if it is not runnig as local master and nt is up all computers are visible. but there is no access to the samba. after looking in my log.nmb i saw that a user is recognized as a valid user and the password is accepted but then i got this message: Couldn't set effective gid to 100 currently set to (real=0,eff=0) after that the connection is closed. i have looked on various websites for help, but i cant find. I am new in using networks and linux and please excuse my bad english but please try to help me. yours mirko brix x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x mirko brix fon: +49 4193 89 24 84 norderstedter str.2 fax: +49 4193 89 24 85 D-24558 henstedt-ulzburg mobil: +49 172 430 12 03 email: mirko.brix@gmx.net x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Hello, I've just installed samba and I have it up and working...well sort of. Here is my problem and I'm not sure what is causing it. Setup: I have a Linux box which is a gateway for my network running samba. A windows 2000 pdc exists on the network along with a handful of Windows 2000 and Windows 98 client systems. They all login to samba after I take the windows 2000 pdc off line. However, I am experiencing two problems. The first is that when a user is loged in and then logs off and a second user logs in the second user can see his/her home directory along with the first user's home directory. how would i fix this. Secondly, I am having problems with the computers seeing each other on the network. I am getting errors when I try to access another user's shares. It says that the computer is unavaible. But I can see it in network neighborhood and can ping it. This is all occuring on the same subnet so I know its not that. I've followed the steps outlined in diagnosing samba problems from the site below. http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html Everything is fine until I get to Test 8, where I get a "network path not found" error (system error 53). I am using a Win2000 server box to try and view a share directory on a Red Hat 7.2 Linux box. I have those connected to a 4 port Linksys router which connects to the outside via my DSL modem. I can ping the Linux box by IP address as well as by its computer name from the Win2000 machine. I've tried the rememdies you outline in Step 8 to fix the potential netbios name resolution, however, still no luck.
Dear Sirs, i have a problem with samba since running on HP UX 11. Our samba is running in security = share Mode. If i try to connect a PC with Win NT Sp5 or WIN 98 i cannot access the samba. With PC running WIN NT Sp6 or W2k it is no problem. Can you give me an information, how i can solve this problem. testparm tells me everything works fine. Starting the service using "/etc/init.d/smb start" also returns no errors, BUT the service is never listed in the processes, not in ps, not in ps x and not in ps ax And stopping the service returns errors. snippet: [root@server samba]# testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf Processing section "[homes]" Processing section "[tmp]" Processing section "[public]" Loaded services file OK. Hello! I use Samba 2.2.0b on my FreeBSD 4.3 box to keep *.dbf database files so it serves as the file server for our production. The problem is that when several people run application written in Visual FoxPro on their Win98 machines at the same time their program hangs. When I issue the command:>/usr/local/samba/bin/smbstatus |head -16it shows multiple open sessions from the same client machines I can't figure out what can cause this problem.
