Hi, I'm running (well trying really) samba on redhat 4.2. It installed automatically when I installed redhat, and everything appears to be running that needs to be on my linux machine. I am able to use samba locally (from my linux machine to my linux machine) but when I try to connect via my win95 machine, it doesn't find my linux box on the network. when I click on entire network, It tells me to check my connection, but thats gotta be wrong since I can telnet or use etscape from my win95 machine through my linux machine. I had configured my win95 machine first with novell client, but then found out that was wrong and removed it and picked the microsoft client. When I use the net view command, I get an error 51 saying something to the effect of it not being able to find my samba server. Could someone please help me with this!!
I don't have much experience with Linux or Samba for that matter but I have gained some over the passed few weeks. I'm setting up a file and print server on a linux box for a group here in work. The version of linux that is running is 2.0.35 and the version of Samba is 2.0.3. I'm currently carrying out the Diagnosis.txt tests. Out of the ten tests the last 3 are failing. I have tried the solutions given and still no result I was wondering would you be able to assist me. If not I'm very sorry for boring you. Hope to hear from someone soon. Thank you. Jennie.
Hi, After successfully installing Samba on my Ultra60, I managed to mount a Unix directory on my NT. After disconnecting the mounted drive from NT, I can NOT re-mount it again unless I reboot my Ultra60 and restart the SMB daemon. The failing message is "The network path was not found" and the command is "net use H: \\saigon\pchome". This command only works after I reboot the Ultra60. Please help. Hi, I have a little problem with Samba. I already searched Deja and posted this question in a few samba related newsgroups but I still didn't solve the problem, so that's why I came here. I installed Samba on my RH6.2 system to have access to my NTshares and vice versa. I have a NTserver installed which acts as PDC. But I get these errormessages in my Linux console and in the logfiles (/var/log/messages) like these: smb_trans2_request: result = -32, setting invalid smb_retry: new pid=395, generation=138 Anyone knows what this means? I included my smb.conf and /etc/fstab (since I automount my NTshare) below: smb.conf: ------------- [global] workgroup = TRICOLON netbios name = MAIL server string = Samba Server security = DOMAIN password server = * password level = 8 username level = 8 log file = /usr/local/samba/var/log.%m max log size = 50 dns proxy = No guest account = ntguest hosts allow = 192.168.0. 127. strict locking = Yes [homes] comment = Home Directories writeable = Yes browseable = No [netlogon] comment = Network Logon Service path = /usr/local/samba/lib/netlogon writeable = Yes guest ok = Yes [printers] comment = All Printers path = /usr/spool/samba printable = Yes browseable = No [Linux_Root] comment = Linux Root path = / browseable = Yes writable = Yes ------------ /etc/fstab: ------------ /dev/hda5 / ext2 defaults 1 1 /dev/hda1 /boot ext2 defaults 1 2 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto, owner,ro 0 0 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto, owner 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0 /dev/hda6 swap swap defaults 0 0 //ntserver/data /mnt/Data smbfs username=administrator, password=xxxxxxxxx 0 0 ------------ Thanks! I included my smb.conf and /etc/fstab (since I > automount my NTshare) below:Yes, it means that the connection was dropped (probably by the NT) and that a new connection was created to replace it. No error, just paranoia logging. I assume nothing stops working? The message should perhaps be changed into "Success! we got a new connection" to illustrate what it actually means. A common error is smb_retry: signal failed, error=-3 But then things stop working. generation=138 means that it has reconnected successfully 138 times. Congratulations. /Urban
Hi dear friends, I have a following problem: I have 2 Samba servers version 2.2.1a under RedHat 7.2 working nicely. This week I was trying to install the third one called wulf2 also under RedHat 7.2. It should work, because I have the same smb.conf file as under another server, but it doesn't. The diagnosis tests seem to work the; testparm as well. The only problem is the "nmblookup -B wulf2", but this test fails even on the servers that work. I can acess shares from smbclient on my server and I can even see the wulf2 icone from my PC, but the problem is that when using net view x: or net use x: or simply clicking on my icone from the PC I always get the message: NETWORK PATH NOT FOUND. I have checked all the files on both computers (wulf 1 which works and wulf2 which doesn't) but I can't see any difference. Have I missed something. Any help is welcome..... Just make sure there are no firewall issues on the malfunctioning machine. Joel
Hi, I am running samba version 2.2.4 on Solaris 8. I am trying to configure samba to allow users on the windows platform see home directories. We are running Windows 2k Professional. I ran the tests in the DIAGNOSIS.txt file and everything up to TEST 8 worked properly, but on test 8 I received an error access is denied. I did not see this error in the DIAGNOSIS.txt file so I was wondering if you could help me? Thanks, David Arnold
I do not remember that I sent you an email yesterday? What you may need is to add linux server name to the windows lmhosts and hosts and hosts.txt in the \winnt\system32\drivers\etc directory, you then define a userid (using the name of the operating system where your samba server is) on W2k . operating system. You may have to reboot W2k system, then go to dos prompt and do net use x: \\xxxxxxxxx\xxxxx. Could anyone help me? I can't configure my samba. I work on RH 7.3, KDE 3.0, kernel 2.4.18-10. When I'd like to use smbclient I've got message: "tdb_open_ex: could not open file /var/cache/samba/unexpected.tdb: No such file or directory" What should I do?
I currently have Samba installed on a Sun Ultra 10, running Solaris 8 and I log into SWAT using the Sun's root account. When I do this, I am unable to add new users. When I enter the username/password and click the "Add New User" button, all of the page contents other than the Samba logo are removed and nothing happens. The status bar says in the brower (Netscape) says "Document: Done". When we've used Samba on other machines, it normally comes back to the user screen and says that the user was added. I am able to do everything else as normal (setting up shares, global configuration changes, etc.). If anyone has an idea what I need to look at or change to fix this, please let me know ASAP. Thank you for the assistance. Charles __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo http://search.yahoo.com
