Install the program from Wine and see if it works there. If it does not, see the following FAQ: http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-0344b4325219c69636aeffeaa3596d6855283afd It addresses networking problems. James McKenzie

Did you installed this program on Wine? ray30 wrote:> there is no file /etc/hosts/"/etc/hosts" is _the_ file. ray30 wrote:> I ran hostname see below > rayburke at rayburke-desktop:~$ hostname -i > 127.0.1.1Yup, your configuration is broken. You have to fix it as described in FAQ.
but how trying to follow the faq loses me as I am only a newbie?????? ray

You got the answer here: somehow your configuration is messed up and it makes you have no /etc/hosts. This question is, however, not Wine-specific but configuration-specific and should therefore preferably be asked on your distro's support forum, where tons more people can help. It comes down to this: if you ask the right questions at the right places you probably won't have to be redirected to other forums all the time. The Wine subforum in the Ubuntu forums might also help, since that is a Wine+Ubuntu specific forum. I can't really help you find a solution as I have a stable DSL connection over a wireless network, so good luck with finding a solution to your problem I guess! :)
