I've started to look a bit at upstart. but not really far ATM.
what I know is that ubuntu also ships a sysV compat layer with upstart
(the package is called upstart-compat-sysv, and contains rc* scripts)
which allows to use the standard nut init script.
and the only event.d examples available ATM are the ones present in
/etc/event.d.
I should have more news soon...
