weirdness on powerfail
I had a power-fail this morning, and when I rebooted, /etc/rc.d/rc.boot issued a 'mount -n -o remount,ro /' and then a 'fsck -A -V -a -C'. The fsck failed on my root partition. I know why it failed. It called fsck.ext2 . My root poartition is ext3. My question is, why did it call fsck.ext2? Another question, why was it checked at all? My /etc/fstab contains: /dev/hda1 / ext3

Can Not Get UPS to Turn Off After System Shutdown
Denny: Thank you. Problem solved. I switched SHUTDOWNCMD back to the default and added nut.powerfail to the shutdown runlevel. Now the UPS turns off after the system shutdown, if the shutdown is caused by lack of power going to the UPS. I checked and found the file sys-power:nut-2.7.4-r1:2018...log in /var/log/portage/elog/*. It did contain the message you pointed out. I should have checked tha...

Opensuse 10.3 does not charge dom0
I decided to upgrade from openSuse 10.2 to openSuse 10.3. I installed xen things, but when I boot using xen option the system is blocked. It appears the green window, with little suse logo in the middle, and mouse cursor, but the system crashes. My computer is a Pentium 4 1,5 GHz, 512 MB of RAM. I attached "diff boot.msg boot.omsg" (as diff opensuse-normal-kernel opensuse-xen-kernel)

2 questions re UPS management
...I'm using is a tripplite (now on 6.4 x86_64, but formerly on the same machine with 5.9 i686), the other is a CyberPower UPS on a different 5.9 machine. question #1: in 5.9 there are two entries in /etc/inittab, one for power fail and the other for power restoration. The default setting for the powerfail entry has it doing a shutdown in 2 minutes. So, I need to tweak it a bit: that UPS powers two computers, the Centos 5.9 box and a Windows XP box. A little googling showed me how to use Samba tools to tell XP to do a shutdown. That works fine. but if I add the command for that into the inittab ent...

Can Not Get UPS to Turn Off After System Shutdown
I just installed NUT on a new Linux (Gentoo) system. Most things work, (notification after 10 seconds on battery, notification and system shutdown after 100 seconds on battery.) However I can't seem to get the UPS (an Eaton 5SC1500) to turn itself off after the Gentoo system shutdown. This is the shutdown command I am using in /etc/nut/upsmon.conf: SHUTDOWNCMD "/usr/sbin/upsdrvctl

How (not) to destroy a PostgreSQL db in domU on powerfail
...r with 3.5 years switching off the power supply of the server, just behind the UPS Seems XEN does lie about fsync, otherwise it shouldn''t have crashed the database (so badly that I could not even dump it, had to restore). xen 3.3.0 etch sources console hangs
I installed xen 3.3.0 on a etch box from sources. I just modified the standard kernel cause of some hardware drivers. I installed xen-tools from backports (3.9-3~bpo40+1). To create a domU ist not the problem. I can connect via ssh and everything works fine. But when i start a domU with "xm create host.example.tld.cfg -c" to login to console from domU it hangs after the message

Can Not Get UPS to Turn Off After System Shutdown
...ly started by upsd anymore. * If you have multiple UPS units, you can use their NUT names to * have a service per UPS: * ln -s /etc/init.d/upsdrv /etc/init.d/upsdrv.$UPSNAME * * If you want apcupsd to power off your UPS when it * shuts down your system in a power failure, you must * add nut.powerfail to your shutdown runlevel: * * rc-update add nut.powerfail shutdown The thing in particular to pay attention to is the last line. upstart configuration for nut
Hello, I'm just migrating my boxes to fedora 9 which brings us to the upstart mechanism instead of SystemV, etc.The distro as it is delivered does not have configuration which supports powerfail events. What can I put in /etc/events.d to make nut work again with the rest of the system fortimely shutdown, etc? Pointers to example files are very welcome! Thanks. Kind regards, Udo

Drop Call on ICMP Port Unreachable?
One of our users recently had a powerfail while connected to our meetme gateway. (Asterisk 1.4.17 on debian 4.0) Through the course of it, asterisk never hung up. His system came back up, and started sending ICMP port unreachables, but the stream went on, flooding him with "silence" media stream packets (there was nobody else...

Windows HVM - orderly shutdown
Is there a way to get Windows to do an orderly shutdown (eg simulate a power button press) using the ''xm shutdown'' command? Thanks James _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

snmp-ups shutdowns
Hello all, I was asked about a proper way to ensure powerfail shutdown of a blade server fed off an APC SmartUPS, which is monitored by all hosts over SNMP. In particular, they'd like to avoid the "untimely" return of utility power - when the OSes are already shutting down, and would stay down because the UPS is well-fed now and thus won't p...

OT: Replacing Venerable NAS
I have an original-label Infrant (now NetGear) ReadyNAS storage appliance that's been running for 8+ years. Except for replacing its power supply, it has not skipped a beat in all this time. I use it primarily as a backup device (via NFS) for a couple of Linux machines, (via SMB) for a couple of Windows PC's, and (via ftp) for web sites at my hosting provider. SMART+ reporting shows

Nut setup on fedora core 6
Hello. I'm trying to setup NUT on Fedora Core 6 x86_64 and have little problems with it. SELinux is disabled at this time. I have ups - MGE Nova 600 AVR connected on serial port. I've installed nut via yum package manager. Everything it seems to work fine, untill one powerfail. Upsmon detect that system is on battery. But when battery level reached "Battery Low" it seems that nut (upsd/mge-shut) never know that, and keep waiting until ups auto protection shut off the load, or if battery level reach 30%, which is the default factory setting for "Battery L...

OT: Replacing Venerable NAS
...case an SP goes down while the data to be written is in cache and has yet to be committed (so that the trespassing SP can write the correct data to disk). They also have dedicated battery backup units and the whole concept of the 'vault' drives to specifically save the write cache in a powerfail emergency. But I would love to see something in the free software space that did that kind of thing, with appropriate hardware.

problem with dynamic libusb.so
Gentlemen, I am making progress with with my APC USB device. However, I have encountered a problem with the current build for newhidups. The problem is that on my system libusb.so resides in /usr/lib, which at the end of the shutdown sequence is no longer available. I believe that this is probably a relatively generic problem, and I think that the proper solution is to link all usb drivers

Question regarding Tripp-Lite omnismart 1050 and Nut
Hey all, I have a omnismart 1050 which i've got working under nut 2.2.2. It starts fine, and seems to poll fine. The only thing that is throwing me for a loop is my UPS is reporting that battery.runtime isn't supported. Will this affect upsmon's ability to shutdown my system in a power outage? I can whip up a simple bash script to take care of it but ideally I'd like to work
