Hi,
I'm completely new to Wine (I'm running version 0.9.9 under Ubuntu
6.06).
I have been able to install and run Windows apps and I can see that Wine really
rocks! For speed, I'd rather run Wine than VMware, especially when it comes
to running MATLAB under linux.
I'm having difficulty with getting MATLAB (6.5.0.180913a (R13)) to run.
There are several threads in the Wine archives for various versions of MATLAB
but I seem to be having some specific problems.
I have tried to install MATLAB from the Windows install CD but it complains that
it needs to install the Windows Java Virtual Machine. I then try to install this
but the installation dies. (See error messages at bottom of this post).
I then tried to simply copy the MATLAB directories from the install on my
Windows machine (which is under c:\MATLAB6p5) to my linux box wine drive at
(i.e ~/.wine/drive_c/MATLAB6p5). I adjusted the Serial# of drive_c using winecfg
according to some previous posts to reflect the serial # of the Windows drive,
but I get the following error message from MATLAB:

License Manager Error -9.
MATLAB is not licensed on this host.
This error may be caused by a hard-drive modification.
Please reinstall MATLAB.

Incidentally, while the .windows-serial file in the drive_c directory correctly
stores the serial #, winecfg drops half of it if I reopen winecfg. Odd?
What am I doing wrong here?
