http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+fax May work if you force G.711 (alaw/ulaw) codec -- that's what Vonage does, and it works with *some* fax machines.> -----Original Message----- > From: mmiranda@americatel.com.sv [mailto:mmiranda@americatel.com.sv] > Sent: Wednesday, May 11, 2005 3:19 PM > To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com > Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Status of FAX > > > Hi people, what is the current status of send/receive fax on > asterisk extensions, i dont want to receive the fax and send > an email or viceversa, i want to connect a standard fax > machine to a Linksys' ATA (FXS RJ11 port) . There is a perfect solution called NVBackgroundDetect application (that you need to compile yourself); as I don't know when will it appear as a standard feature on stable version. I've tried on Gentoo but didn't have much luck. -- #Joseph
Yep it's called Jfax but it's a commercial service that there is a charge for.> -----Original Message----- > From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users- > bounces@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of Chris Coulthurst > Sent: Wednesday, 11 May 2005 11:41 PM > To: 'Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion' > Subject: RE: [Asterisk-Users] Status of FAX > > What about some sort of 'fax proxy'? Hi Chris, Sorry you missed the point. What I meant to say was yes there are already services out there that can deliver fax from the internet to a pstn service almost anywhere in the world. Jfax does exactly this, you upload the faxes over the internet using their client and then they distribute these faxes to their local pops around the world then they use pstn services to deliver them locally. They had a real business case in the era before email and when idd calls where expensive (one company I worked for spent thousands with them every month faxing international orders etc but cheaper than using Telecom Australia's idd rates). Like I said, my point being there are already ways to do what you are asking Jfax being one of them. Hope that makes more sense now. Joseph, Are you still having problems with NVFaxDetect and NVBackgroundDetect on Gentoo? Give me a call or e-mail me. It works on nearly every distro we've evaluated.
