Hi all, Has anyone gotten custom ring tones to work using ALERT_INFO with the Cisco 7940 SIP phone? I've read the wiki, but just can't get this to work. I'm currently using the 7.2 SIP image. Thanks, Chris
Hi I could never get this to work the way I wanted, I then found in the notes about half way down on this page in the wiki http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk+config+sip.conf a reference to that you really have to listen to hear the difference and that Cisco are working on the ability to specifiy the ringtone on the phone rather then just the volume (I can't access the tracking link though so don't know the current status....if anyone could let me know the status I'd appreciate it - and possibly update the wiki). I have a residential/private number and the business numbers. I like the private number to ring to the phone on my desk, so I use the ALERT_INFO to change the ring cadence. Basically, this is what I do: exten => xx,1,SetVar(ALERT_INFO=<Bellcore-dr2>) exten => xx,2,Dial(SIP/7011|15|r) exten => xx,3,Voicemail,uxx Possible values are Bellcore-dr1 through Bellcore-dr5 if memory serves. -Shaun

[Asterisk-Users] Cisco 79XX SIP Ring Tones
I think there is a bit of confution over the term 'ringtone' I started out thinking that I could use Alert_Info to define a different ringtone that I had setup on the tftp server - ie it was the same as going to the phone and changing the ringing settings manually. This is not the case and the release notes for firmware version 6 say that you can only use Alert_Info to define a ringtone that is held internally within the phone, and not a url or external tone. When testing it would seem that settings Bellcore-dr1 to Bellcore-dr5 only change the number of times the phone 'rings' per ring if you get my drift!! ie: Bellcore-dr1 goes ring.....ring Bellcore-dr2 goes ringring.....ringring Bellcore-dr3 goes ringringring......ringringring Be aware that it seems that if you set alert-info in asterisk it will override any ringer settings on the phone and always use the default rintone. I have only found this out by testing it all out for a morning - if anyone knows how to set the rintone to a completely different one held on the tftp server then pls let me know. I am running Firmware 7.2 and none of the release notes since 6.0 highlight any changes in the behaviour of alert_info - very annoying.
