Greetings from the day of rest after a week of Where. It was a great time out here - and there is a lot of interest in the community around Mapstraction. The new Sandbox (http://mapstraction.appspot.com) made surprisingly quick rounds and lots of kudos. It will be a great place to demo Mapstraction and encourage developers. We had a very good discussion about Mapstraction at WhereCamp. Pamela Fox took some good notes that hopefully she''ll post here soon so that we can discuss and take action. I also added an initial round of tickets on implementing providers: http://code.google.com/p/mapstraction/issues/list I would like to put out a call for people to sign up to implement a provider. There are 10 to do, so don''t feel shy! The quicker we get these implemented - the quicker users can move to the v2 and adopt the new architecture. Thanks! Andrew
Here are my notes from the WhereCamp session: http://www.socialtext.net/wherecamp/index.cgi?abstraction_libraries I noticed the playground tries to download Loki and detect if the viewer is at WhereCamp - I found that a bit strange when I visited it. I''d suggest removing that for normal use. On Sun, May 24, 2009 at 1:18 PM, Andrew Turner <ajturner at highearthorbit.com> wrote:> Greetings from the day of rest after a week of Where. Hi! I would like to take on implementing the Virtual Earth one. Also a minor side thing, there isn''t a clear link to the mailing lift from the Google Code page. It might be confusing for those that wish to join. If it is there and I just missed it my apologies. -Kate> On Sun, May 24, 2009 at 1:18 PM, Andrew Turner > <ajturner at highearthorbit.com> wrote: >> Greetings from the day of rest after a week of Where. Yes - thank you. The Sandbox was built for the Where2.0 Workshop, but will clean up for more general use now. Is it quirky to have the default demo map from Yahoo - and running on Google''s AppEngine? ;) Kate - I will add a link from the GoogleCode page to the mailing list On Sun, May 24, 2009 at 1:44 PM, pamela fox <pammyla.fox at gmail.com> wrote:> Here are my notes from the WhereCamp session: > http://www.socialtext.net/wherecamp/index.cgi?abstraction_libraries > > > I noticed the playground tries to download Loki and detect if the > viewer is at WhereCamp - I found that a bit strange when I visited it. > I''d suggest removing that for normal use. > > On Sun, May 24, 2009 at 1:18 PM, Andrew Turner > <ajturner at highearthorbit.com> wrote: >> Greetings from the day of rest after a week of Where. In my last commit I said "first pass at Yahoo" where what I really meant was "Yahoo is done" so I''ve updated the issue for that. I''ve also done (but not committed yet) the fallback invocation functionality where you can say invoke this provider function but if it doesn''t exist use this function instead. Also refined the events for my google and yahoo implementations so they''re supporting endPan, changeZoom, click, addMarker, removeMarker, addPoly, removePoly on the map itself and click, openBubble, closeBubble on a marker. Hopefully we should be able to support all these events across all the providers, I know multimap does and should think virtual earth also. FYI, You can set Google code to send all revisions and issues to this list. I do it for the maps api projects, just to remind people that stuff is happening. Your call though, it can potentially get busy.
