Does anyone know if multi master replication can be done with ZFS. Use case is 2 data centers that you want to keep in sync. My understanding is that master slave is possible only. ged This message posted from opensolaris.org

It is typically used with something like AVS for remote sites. See: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/avs/ http://blogs.sun.com/AVS/entry/avs_and_zfs_seamless -- richard
Multi master replication is when both computers are read and write basically. I meant this in the context of a Data center with one ZFS pool, and another data center with another. The idea being that you can keep the two in sync using Multi master replication. This message posted from opensolaris.org

Each storage pool (zpool) can only be mounted by one host at a time, which is what you describe. But if you are asking whether ZFS will be a clustered file system, like QFS, then the answer is there is currently no plan to do so. More details are in the FAQ: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/faq hmmm... we need to update the FAQ with a description of how using ZFS with pNFS and Lustre (in addition to the traditional network file systems) works. -- richard
