Greetings, Last April, in this discussion... http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=143517 ...we never found out how (or if) the Sun 6120 (T4) array can be configured to ignore cache flush (sync-cache) requests from hosts. We''re about to reconfigure a 6120 here for use with ZFS (S10U4), and the evil tuneable zfs_nocacheflush is not going to serve us well (there is a ZFS pool on slices of internal SAS drives, along with UFS boot/OS slices). Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks and regards, Marion
I gave up. The 6120 I just ended up not doing zfs. And for our 6130 since we don''t have santricity or the sscs command to set it, I just decided to export each disk and create an array with zfs (and a RAMSAN zil), which made performance acceptable for us. I wish there was a firmware that just made these things dumb jbods! -Andy On 9/28/07 7:37 PM, "Marion Hakanson" <hakansom at ohsu.edu> wrote:> Greetings, > > Last April, in this discussion... > http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=143517 > > ...we never found out how (or if) the Sun 6120 (T4) array can be configured > to ignore cache flush (sync-cache) requests from hosts. SCSI based, but solid and cheap enclosures if you don''t care about support: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?satitle=Sun+D1000 On Oct 1, 2007, at 12:15, Andy Lubel wrote:> I gave up. > > The 6120 I just ended up not doing zfs. In case your still interested, I did do a firmware build based on 3.2.7 that: 1) Allows 14 volumes (aka RAID groups) to be defined per tray (I had to limit the tray count to 2 to avoid gobs of restructuring...) BTW, This requires you to wipe the disk labels and you lose everything...but I figure if you are going to make 14-28 RAID 0 volumes, that won''t be an issue.... 2) Sends back good status for cache sync requests instead of an Invalid command response and the assosciated syslog messages.... 3) A side fix for cache read hits on RAID 5 stripes when a drive in the set is disabled. (I had it laying around already so why not....) It is definitely NOT an official build, and is NOT supported.... I need to hunt down whoever is handling the 6120 nowadays to clear the release of anything, which will likely include an agreement to be signed much like a beta.... Please let me know if there is any interest.... This message posted from opensolaris.org
Hi, I tried to contact Joel Miller, but the mail server responses "User unknown" :( Is there anybody else here who received the modified firmware based on 3.2.7 from Joel Miller? I have several 6120 arrays at home and I like to create a large ZFS pool over all disks without the built-in RAID capabilities.
