Hi all, Is tar/star/gtar still the recommend $0 method of backing up files that live on ZFS (assuming one is using tape for off-site storage)? If so, would I be correct in thinking that it is possible to extract just the file(s) one is interested in restoring from the tar archive without having to restore the whole thing? Perhaps open source utilities like Amanda would do better job here? -- Best regards, Robert mailto:rmilkowski at task.gda.pl http://milek.blogspot.com

Using the interactive mode, the pattern matcher or the find(1) syntax, it is simple to extract single files using star.
