Working with assumptions since the information you provided isn''t
entirely
clear. You are running Windows 7 as an HVM and using IOMMU/Passthrough
with your AMD Radeon 6850?
Did you install Xen from packages, or compile it? How about your Dom0
kernel?
I agree entirely about using the right tool for the job, but I have to
disagree in that I run a Windows 7 HVM and can play a large number of games
at native performance.
Running Debian Wheezy with custom kernel for built-in pciback, Xen 4.2
compiled from source, and an AMD 6870, scores a 7.8/7.9 in Windows
Experience Index. Apples to Oranges with the CPU though, I''m using an
i7
2600 and passing 4 vcores (my low WEI score is 7.5 for CPU).
Still, haven''t had any problems playing games at max settings, if your
card
isn''t performing right I''d assume either improper
configuration or maybe
the card isn''t being reset. Have you looked up problems regarding
performance degradation on HVM reboots? You may have to manually eject the
card, or reboot the entire physical machine for the card to reset and
perform normally.
