For open source Xen, you need a line in the VM’s config file: serial = pty to
make it work. I am not sure how you do this for XenServer VMs. You might better
served posting to a XenServer support forum.

Subject: [Xen-users] Serial Port
Hi
We are using Citrix Xenserver , having 2 virtual servers having Red Hat Linux
installed.
We are trying to use the serial port through one of the server.
Minicom shows connected to the port /dev/ttyS0 , but fails to respond to any
commands
We have one physical serial port on the system.
setserial –g /dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
