Start off by aquiring the Windows XP source code from Microsoft. There are several (legal) ways to do this, most include ridiculous large sums of money or political pressure from your government. If you happen to work at an university doing research MS is interested in, you might also have luck and they already have the source. Then start patching the source + recompile XP. Good luck. It might be faster and cheaper to just wait for the next generation of Intel/AMD CPUs with hardware virtualization support, with those you won''t need a modified Guest OS. /Ernst _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

Then we can tell users to RTFM or wahtever.. but attacking users on the list when it''s not clearly documented is a little silly. Perhaps it is in the FAQ, I don''t think it was last time I looked. -- Ian P. It''s in the FAQ on the Wiki... it''s just hard to actually *find* the FAQ on the wiki ;-) We really ought to organise it a bit better... More useful links on the front page would be a good start! We never did figure out if it would be possible to release a binary patch for Windows Xen support (obviously we couldn''t distribute source code mods). There''d obviously be big legal headaches involved with this sort of thing. The Windows port also hasn''t been updated for a long while. The plan is to support Windows (and other guests that aren''t / can''t be ported) only under Vanderpool / Pacifica chips - i.e. you''ll need the new virtualisation-enhanced hardware from Intel and AMD. Intel''s solution should be in a shop near you Real Soon Now, since they''ve shipped the hardware to manufacturers. AMD''s will be available next year. We did think about enabling users to patch their Windows install: whether it might be possible to just distribute a binary patch, or possibly cobble together a solution where we don''t modify core MS code and therefore don''t need the source access we used for the initial port. It turned out too much of a headache in the end, especially since hardware support is just around the corner...
