[Xen-devel] about development environment for customizing
I''m Ryo at Tsukuba University in Japan I''m thinking about customizing xen for research. so I find for appropriate development environment for debugging. Which environment should be used? Using VMWare? Xen? Qemu? Bochs? real machine? If anyone has nice idea or method already using , please tell me about it :-) cheers. #please forgive my poor english :-) **************************************** HPCS lab 4th grade student of Colledge of Information Science, University of Tsukuba Ryo Kanbayashi _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-devel

Hi, At first, you shoud describe more detail which functionality you plan to develop. At this moment, your description is vague and no one can comment on you. Re: [Xen-devel] about development environment for customizing
Oh sorry, it''s just as you says :-) Thanks Mr. Sakai. Though I can''t describe real details because my work is research, Rough describes I want to do is below -add additional faunction code to codes around memory access, various IO access, generating interrupt and modyfying register values. So, I want to use the following functional capabilities - resume with snapshot like VMWARE - watching values of memory and registers. - connecting to serial port of the environment for kernel debugger - comfot to use. For example, a environment which runs two ore three times slower than real machine can''t be introduced That''s all. I hope comming of advice from anyone :-) cheers. **************************************** HPCS lab 4th grade student of Colledge of Information Science, University of Tsukuba Ryo Kanbayashi Atsushi SAKAI wrote:> Hi, > > At first, you shoud describe more detail > which functionality you plan to develop. > At this moment, your description is vague and no one can comment on you. > > Thanks > Atsushi SAKAI > > > Ryo Kanbayashi <kanbayashi@hpcs.cs.tsukuba.ac.jp> wrote: > > >> I''m Ryo at Tsukuba University in Japan >> >> I''m thinking about customizing xen for research. so I find for appropriate development environment for debugging. >> >> Which environment should be used? >> >> Using VMWare? Hi, Ryo Call me Atsushi. It looks you does not know the basic knowledge of Xen. You should read Xen Users Manual at first. http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/srg/netos/xen/readmes/user.pdf This manual includes in xen distribution packages. And its xen/docs directory has many documents. please check at first. And I also think following web pages are helpful. http://xen.xensource.com/ Thanks Atsushi SAKAI Ryo Kanbayashi <kanbayashi@hpcs.cs.tsukuba.ac.jp> wrote:> Oh sorry, it''s just as you says :-) > Thanks Mr. Sakai. > > Though I can''t describe real details because my work is research, Rough > describes I want to do is below > > -add additional faunction code to codes around memory access, various IO > access, generating interrupt and modyfying register values. > > So, I want to use the following functional capabilities > > - resume with snapshot like VMWARE > - watching values of memory and registers. > - connecting to serial port of the environment for kernel debugger > - comfot to use. Hi, Atsushi :-)> It looks you does not know the basic knowledge of Xen. > You should read Xen Users Manual at first. > http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/srg/netos/xen/readmes/user.pdfI know this document and read most of this document :-)> This manual includes in xen distribution packages. > And its xen/docs directory has many documents. > please check at first.Ok. Ceteinlly, I haven''t read these except user.pdf. I try to read :-)> It looks you does not know the basic knowledge of Xen.Hmm, I think that I understand almost of xen like how to use or architecture. Maybe, what I wrote isn''t got through. I want to modify xen''s code for research and want debug it. So, I want a environment for debuggint it. For example, I want to watch values of memory and values of register, connect kernel debugger with virtual serial por(Xen kernel can''t be connected by kernel debugger?). Is above matched your interpretation? :-) cheers. #Incidentally, I confirmed runnning xen on VMWare Server :-) # But running xen on QEMU isn''t succeed :-( **************************************** HPCS lab 4th grade student of Colledge of Information Science, University of Tsukuba Ryo Kanbayashi Atsushi SAKAI wrote:> Hi, Ryo > > Call me Atsushi. > It looks you does not know the basic knowledge of Xen. > You should read Xen Users Manual at first. > http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/srg/netos/xen/readmes/user.pdf > > This manual includes in xen distribution packages. > And its xen/docs directory has many documents. > please check at first. > > And I also think following web pages are helpful. > http://xen.xensource.com/ > > Thanks > Atsushi SAKAI > > > > > > Ryo Kanbayashi <kanbayashi@hpcs.cs.tsukuba.ac.jp> wrote: > > >> Oh sorry, it''s just as you says :-) >> Thanks Mr. Sakai. >> >> Though I can''t describe real details because my work is research, Rough >> describes I want to do is below >> >> -add additional faunction code to codes around memory access, various IO >> access, generating interrupt and modyfying register values. >> >> So, I want to use the following functional capabilities >> >> - resume with snapshot like VMWARE >> - watching values of memory and registers. >> - connecting to serial port of the environment for kernel debugger >> - comfot to use.
