When Xen creates an HVM domain, each network device appears in the domain as either a PV device or an emulated physical device, depending on the configuration. Disks, on the other hand, are always made available twice: once as an emulated physical device and once as a paravirtualized device. Why is this? I know this question has been raised before, but I don''t think I ever saw a real answer. There was some speculation (e.g., "it makes developing PV drivers easier?"), but nothing definitive.
