[Wine] Can only use Guest Mode - Normal user shows only desktop BG
Yeah, I'm making a seperate thread for it since "Garry's Mod Questions" might prevent a few people from looking at it. Well, if you've read my other thread you know this, but, I can only use my computer in Guest mode, since Normal user shows only desktop background.. Guest mode deletes anything you've downloaded, doesn't remember passwords, doesn't remember ANYTHING since you've restarted your computer. I'm stuck here using Guest Mode waiting for something to happen. >:0 The cause is a few PPA's (or what I know of them) and after getting 3, I restarted, only to find myself in Guest Mode. I thought, "huh, must be something that the PPA's did. Cool." As you can tell I thought it was part of the process of loading the PPA's. I download them because someone on the Ubuntu version of my G-Mod thread told me to download them, which should do something like update my graphics card, since it WASN'T on the main Intel site. >_> I switched my user after first going into Guest Mode, and you can guess what happened. After directly shutting down my computer and doing the same thing about three times, I found out that everything is just invisible. I click the Firefox button and I heard the "dong." I opened my webcam program and my webcam light turned on. So after figuring that out I just switched users by using the little "switch user" button. ... As you can tell this is somewhat of a mystery... ALSO I CANNOT disable the PPA's because I have NO ADMINISTRATIVE POWER in Guest Mode. I can't do ANYTHING to the computer. :c

I don't use Ubuntu and don't have a clue what "guest mode" is, but if no one on the Ubuntu forum has any idea what to do about this problem, the simplest solution may be to reinstall everything from scratch.

If so, and it has the ssh client installed (Linux) or PuttY (Windows), can you log in to your wrecked user or to root from it? What about using VNC from the second computer? If you can login via ssh, start the vncserver. Your second computer's web browser should then be able to start a remote desktop via VNC. If either of these works, log in as root and try setting up an additional user via the remote login or VNC session and see if you can login to that from the affected computers' console. Martin

You can try to switch to another tty using CTRL+ALT+Fx (for instance, CTRL+ALT+F4) and logging in using your acount. From there you shiuld be able to get some decent control and try to disable them :)
