I'm a new user of Ubuntu 9.04 and have installed Wine 1.1.28. Have not been able to get Trackmania Nations Forever 2.11.11 to start despite the AppDB indicating it should be fine. Installer worked fine, but program crashes on startup with an error message saying "Application has encountered a serious error and needs to close". Dump file indicates an unhandled exception. First few lines are at end of post. Based on comments on AppDB tried copying the d3dx9_30.dll from Windows, but didn't know where to put it - most logical place seemed in with the Trackmania dlls end exe. Didn't make any difference. Any help would be appreciated. If you have any other applications that need weird Wine settings, you should install TM in its own wineprefix. http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/WINEPREFIX The output that you posted does seem to be console output. Can you please post console output? (See FAQ in wiki for instructions) What graphics card do you have?

What video card and driver do you have? Post complete terminal output of running the program (http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).

Many thanks for the input. Here are the requested pieces of info and results of trying the various suggestions: Wine's Windows version is set to XP. Copying the version of d3dx9_30.dll from Windows to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 had no effect. (There was already a file of that name there, which I renamed before the copy.) I also tried copying d3dx9_36.dll to the same directory, but similarly without effect. Running in terminal was more helpful and resulted in the following output: fixme:d3d_caps:wined3d_guess_vendor Received unrecognized GL_VENDOR "VIA Technology". Returning VENDOR_WINE. fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32ec40,0x00000000), stub! fixme:d3d_caps:wined3d_guess_vendor Received unrecognized GL_VENDOR "VIA Technology". Hmmm, if you reckon that's old, you should see the computer I'm trying to run it on!!!! I suspect if I put a fancy new video card in it the whole thing will have a hernia and freeze up, or maybe burst into flames. Trackmania works under Windows, so we might just have to stick with that until the inevitable computer upgrade. Thanks for your input, Dunc
