wine users - Mar 2009 - Wine in gNewSense 2.1

I installed Wine ??version? 0.9.59-0ubuntu4 (us.archive-gnewsense.org)
for gNewSense 2.1.  When I ran Notepad I can type text but when I press
the Enter key there is neither carriage return or new line action
performed.

Has any one experienced this and fixed it?

This is really old Wine version, upgrade.
Latest Wine version in wine-1.1.17.
