Hallo wine user team, I am not sure if I need an original XP version to work with wine. In other words. Can I use wine without installing XP, for example. Because I have several old applications, which I would like to run on linux together with wine. Would wine emulates the hardware like a virtual machine, or takes wine the local hardware to deal with? Thanks for your answer in advanced. best regards jeorg -- Der GMX SmartSurfer hilft bis zu 70% Ihrer Onlinekosten zu sparen! Ideal f?r Modem und ISDN: http://www.gmx.net/de/go/smartsurfer

Wine translates the Windows API calls into native calls for you. Check the AppDB (appdb.winehq.org) to see if your app is listed and any issues you may encounter.
