Dear All, is there a step-by-step guide on how to install PowerPoint 2000 with wine (I'm running PhotoShop 3 and UltraEdit with it, perfectly !) System: SuSE Personal 9.1, wine -version is 20040213-41. I tried to start the install with 'wine /path/to/CD-ROM/setup.exe', it takes forever and finally it returns with 'file not found'. The files are all there, expect that on the CD, they are in Mixed Case (like '/Install/Files/File.dll'), but wine is looking for '/install/files/file.dll', all lower case. I spend way too many hours with this thing ... can you help, please? Thanks in advance, Peter ___________________________________________________________ Gesendet von Yahoo! Hi Peter, In you /home/[username]/.wine/dosdevices/ directory are softlinks to various "drives". One of them should be for your CDROM. Make sure the drive letter correctly softlinks to it. Once that is taken care of, try executing your setup file using the following syntax (assuming d: is the cdrom drive): wine "d:\setup.exe" When you do this, upper/lowercase really doesn't matter. Give it a shot, and let us know what you come up with. :) Hiji --- Peter Wahl <info_pw@yahoo.de> wrote:> Dear All, > > is there a step-by-step guide on how to install > PowerPoint 2000 with wine (I'm running PhotoShop 3 > and > UltraEdit with it, perfectly !) > > System: SuSE Personal 9.1, wine -version is > 20040213-41. > > I tried to start the install with 'wine > /path/to/CD-ROM/setup.exe', it takes forever and > finally it returns with 'file not found'. > > The files are all there, expect that on the CD, they > are in Mixed Case (like '/Install/Files/File.dll'), > but wine is looking for '/install/files/file.dll', > all > lower case. > > I spend way too many hours with this thing ... can > you > help, please? > > Thanks in advance, Peter > > > > > > > >___________________________________________________________> > Gesendet von Yahoo! Did you mount the CD with the unhide option? Some CD have hidden files. Hello Hiji, sorry for the long delay, but there is no /dosdevices directory anywhere on my machine. Any hint? Thanks, and have a good weekend! Duane, well, it wasn't neccessary ... Photoshop3 and UltraEdit ran just fine. I went to the WineTools Web site minutes ago and found the preferred Win version would be 20041019, but when I downloaded the file Wine-20041019.tar.gz from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wine, it's only a few kByte in size ... Help, please ... My good ness, now you must think I'm a complete newbie to the Web. I thought this in the download link so I really downloaded the link, instead of just clicking on it I downloaded it. Well, now I downloaded the wine-20041019, ran the configure (takes a minute), then 'make .... && make' which takes around 20 minutes, which returns after endless number of lines: Wine Build complete. Fine, great work from all involved. But I think one more 'wine' step is missing (install ???), since: rpm -i winetools-2.1.1-jo.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: wine is needed by winetools-2.1.1-jo xdialog is needed by winetools-2.1.1-jo Prior to this, I installed 'Xdialog' with: rpm -i ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/packages/Utilities/xdialog/Xdialog-2.1.1-2suse90.i686.rpm Why is it that both packages are not found? Thanks for your help ... I really admire your work. Dear Holly, thanks for your suggestions! The reason why I installed wine-20041019 and not the latest release is that Winetools recommends wine-20041019 as 'highly preferred'. I couldn't find a ready made rpm of this version ... by the way, I'm running SuSE 9.1; the only version of xdialog I could find was for 9.0, but I read that it would work for 9.1 too. I did do 'make install' as root from within the wine-directory. Xdialog is listed in YaST as installed, but still winetools returns with: rpm -i winetools-2.1.1-jo.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: wine is needed by winetools-2.1.1-jo xdialog is needed by winetools-2.1.1-jo Thanks for your help, Peter --- Holly Bostick <motub@planet.nl> wrote:> Peter Wahl wrote: > > My good ness, > > > > now you must think I'm a complete newbie to the > Web. WineTools has a dependency for xdialog. SuSE calls the packet Xdialog. And only the creator of life knows why the hell redhat decided to use packet names case sensitive. With the next version of my WineTools this will be fixed. Regards Joachim von Thadden -- "Never touch a running system! Never run a touching system? Never run a touchy system!!!"
Dear All, o.k., I started from scratch and used the install script. At the end, it didn't see my existing WinXP installation (the disk is mounted!). Thanks to Joachim's hint to use 'rpm -ivh ...', winetools installes and comes up just fine and I created my fake C:\ drive. But when it comes to installing DCOM98, it 'downloads' forever, with no progress. So I located the file myself and saved it locally; how can I bend winetools so that it uses my local version of DCOM98, which is stored in /home/user/.wine/drive_c/DCOM98.EXE right now? Furthermore, winetools is looking for firefox, which I installed in another directory than the ones winetools is looking in ... how can I change this? Thanks again for your great support! Hi Joachim, Thanks! dcom98.exe is now in ~/winetools/sys, but I had to tweak ~/.wine/winetools.log; since I didn't install it the official way, there wasn't a correct entry. I continued the base setup and right I'm working on installing IE6 (english). Same thing, the download bar remained at 0%, so I downloaded the file myself again and stored it in /tmp. Right after downloading, the MS install wizard comes up and allows to select some options of what I want installed. It takes a few minutes before it offers the possibility to enter a proxy adress into the wizard and only then the installation begins. IE6 is running fine Perfect job, you all ! Congratulations ! --- Joachim von Thadden <thadden@web.de> wrote:> Am Mi, M?r 16, 2005 at 02:36:19 +0100 schrieb Peter > Wahl: > > But when it comes to installing DCOM98, it > 'downloads' > > forever, with no progress. Hi Joachim, I believe I know now why the download didn't work: Inside our company, we use a central script to determine the proxy setting (something in the form of 'http://dusx/dusx.dat'). Konquerer, which is the browser used by winetools, doesn't work with this setting (firefox does), and so the download doesn't work ??? However, I downloaded SplashKiller.zip. Where do I have to put the two files (.exe and .dll) so that it is detected by winetools? Thanks again for your good work; this is amazing and I discover new things everyday (like the 'dos' command -- very funny !!) --- Joachim von Thadden <thadden@web.de> wrote:> Am Mi, M?r 16, 2005 at 06:54:29 +0100 schrieb Peter > Wahl: > > Thanks! dcom98.exe is now in ~/winetools/sys, but > I > > had to tweak ~/.wine/winetools.log; since I didn't > > install it the official way, there wasn't a > correct > > entry. > > It would have been easier just to install again. > > > I continued the base setup and right I'm working > on > > installing IE6 (english).
