ClamAV "clamscan" command using huge amount of RAM
We have a perl cgi script that accepts uploaded files and runs clamscan on them. While observing the system performance I noticed that each clamscan process consumes up to 250MB of RAM. Is this normal for ClamAV? This seems like an enormous amount of RAM, for simply scanning one file for viruses.

kernel: dahdi: Detected time shift.
...at the time the server hangs. Logging continues when the server has been restarted (which is the only solution). So it is not a proces that hangs, it's the entire server (CentOS5.5 + Asterisk + MySQL). I really have no idea what can be causing these sudden freezes. Memory stays mostly at 250MB of 512 MB total, CPU is 97% to 100% idle... /var/log/asterisk/debug tells me nothing, no lines that indicate something strange before the freeze (debug level 9). I have no core.pid file in /tmp, when I look after rebooting the server. The only thing I have is a high level of mentionning of &quo...

Used mkdiskimage script on wrong drive!
...mode (http://syslinux.zytor.com/usbkey.php). I made a mistake and (doing exactly what the page warned against not doing) used the mkdiskimage command on the wrong drive (a 230Gb NTFS external hard-drive). I typed 'sudo ./mkdiskimage -4 /dev/sdb 243 64 32' instead of typing /dev/sdc (for my 250mb usb drive) and now all my data on my external drive is inaccessable from Linux and Windows. I haven't performed any other read, write, partition (or format) commands since running the mkdiskimage script. Is there anyway to undo (or even partially undo) what I've done?

Can't see existing mail folders
...ting mbox hierarchies. I have the following in dovecot.conf:- default_mail_env = mbox:/home/%u/Mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u (I also originally tried with %h/Mail) IMAP MUAs can see the INBOX OK but I can't get them to see any of the mail in $HOME/Mail. There certainly is lots of mail there, 250Mb or so of it, and a local mutt can see it without problems. Am I missing something obvious or will dovecot only see mail and folders that it's created itself? -- Chris Green (chris at areti.co.uk) "Never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence."

Multichannel working at half speed with 2x NICs
...uot; and "aio write size = 1", but that didn't change anything. In addition, I've tried all the suggestions in thread linked above and all have been unsuccessful. I've verified that all my drives on both the server and client are capable of sustaining read/writes of well over 250MB/s, so I don't think this is a disk bottleneck issue. What happens during a file transfer is that both interfaces are only utilized at around 50%, so they both combine to give me ~1Gbps, when they really should be working at 100% each for ~2Gbps total. What can I do to troubleshoot this? Than...

rsync filling up hardisk on OSX
...sk on one of my client OSX machines. df showed a little over a gigabyte when i started the backup of the ~=30GB drive I had a little over 1GB free. As the backup was running df reported less and less available space untill I finally killed ctrl-c killed the rsync process when there was only about 250MB left. Now I can't find where all the used space is. Is there a large temporary directory somewhere? Can I configure rsync to not use so much tmp space, or change where it is? Where the heck is that 700MB? On another OSX powerbook It seems to be working ok. But even on that on it seemed to u...

EXT4 root fails for kickstart
Hi All, For those testing EXT4 I seem to have found an issue with anaconda where by if you specify EXT4 fstype in your kickstart file it will not install and complains that if needs another 250MB of disk space. I've tried with my kickstart set for 10G for root at ext3 and it works fine. 10,15 and 20GB with EXT4 all fail. BTW: can't put /boot on it either. Just a heads up for all. ;) -- James A. scan question
Hi In R 0.90.1 is there a way of stopping scan() from rewinding to the beginning of the file? Basically I have a mega-file (250Mb!!!) that I want to read and process in 301 line chunks, each line having 151 numbers on it. If I do for (i in 1:many){ pp<-scan('filename',skip=(i-1)*301,nlines=301) } it appears to do what I want but as the chunks get further down the file it gets slower and slower. So can I stop t...

quota-command?
Hello, if you log in at hotmail.com, gmx, lycos or yahoo, you can see something like "using 1.4mb of 250mb total". Is there any IMAP command to check to current quota usage? Our webmail-interface will not have access to the filesystem to summarize the size of each file, so an IMAP-command would be great. I don't know if this would be a new feature or just part of the Maildir++ quota-system,...

.imap.index.data Files
...resolved. However, one more savvy user though he could use the webmail (squirrelmail) to delete the e-mail without downloading it. He gave up on the idea though. I, however, removed the mail directly from the server file system. The problem now is that he has a .imap.index.data file of over 250MB! I have asked him to login again and view all the directories, I even sent him another test and asked him to delete this via webmail. None of this had any effect on the file. I thought the indexes were rebuilt with the deletion of a message? Any ideas? Nigel ________...

I have noticed, that the memory usage patern is very different on machines using ext2 and ext3 - the ones using ext2 usually use 5-10 MB of "buff" memory, but the ones with ext3 grow to 50MB on machines with 128MB, and to 250MB with on machine with 512 MB. I have conducted a test, and changed /etc/fstab on the 7.2 machine to mount all partitions ext2 instead of ext3, and the "buff" memory is back to 5 MB, as with normal 7.1 linux. Is it normal? [blkfront] max_segments & max_segment_size
Hi, I have (very) poor write performance with Xen PV, used over RBD, and I suppose it''s because of very short values for max_segments and max_segment_size. (I have 250MB/s write speed in Dom0 vs 40MB/s write speed in DomU) From what I read, there is already a patch to fix that, called "multi page ring support for block devices" : http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2012-03/msg00388.html But it doesn''t seem to have been accepted.
