All, I have to admit I am totally confused over the status of wine doc. The doc on winehq refers to packages that do not appear to be in the 200405 release. 1. where is the current doc? 2. what tools are available and needed to read it? 3. how can the registry be created? 4. how can it be tested? 5. is there still a tool to check the config file? Sorry for the long list, Dan
> 1. where is the current doc?http://www.winehq.com/site/documentation> 2. what tools are available and needed to read it?You can read it with your web browser, or acrobat reader, or a text editor.> 3. how can the registry be created?IIRC Wine should create for you when you run it for the first time> 4. how can it be tested?A common test is to run the wine notepad> 5. is there still a tool to check the config file?I don't understand what you mean with "check" the config file. If you mean the syntax, Wine checks it every time you run it. Ivan.
> 1. Yes, but are these docs current??I dont' think docs about the most recent changes have even been written yet.> 5. Wasn't there a program that checked the config file and spit out a score.I've used it but can't remember it's name anymore. Yes, but AFAIK it's ben removed, as the config file is going soon. Ivan.
> The documentation refers to 'winecheck'. There is no winecheck in > 20040505. Is it still available??In old versions, yes.> There is a documentation dir in /wine. How is this read? You have to compile it with dockbook. You can find the current version compiled in HTML on the winehq web site. Ivan.
> 5. What will replace the config file? The wine registry. Ivan.
> Will that registry be editable in a straight forward way?? The config > file is actually 'readable' and understandable. It would be a step > backward to replace the config file with 'regedit'. Regedit is not > usable as a general purpose configuration toolYou'll be able to configure most options using winecfg, that will edit the registry for you. Ivan.
> Will it support either a local registry or a Win partition registry. > Specifically will it support an alternative local registry when Wine is > using a Win partition?? (this is necessary to prevent corruption to the > 'real' Win partition.)Never thought about that, maybe someone that know more about it than me will answer. If not, you may want to ask the devel list. Ivan.
