I am trying to convert all my home systems to Linux, and get away from Windows. Wine looks like a promising way for me to do this. One problem is keeping me from linux, and that is pritner drivers. I have a Canon Multipass F50 printer and there are no Linux drivers that work. Is it possible that I could install my Windows drivers under Wine and get this to work in a Linux installation? Thanks for you help. Scot.
Wine can't load windows drivers, are you sure Linux doesn't have drivers for this printer? What distro are you using? I have read that in some cases old 16 bit drivers can be loaded by wine, but I don't think you can count on that, if you aren't very lucky and have a very old printer.
Several websites I have looked at claim Canon refuse to support Linux. I think you're on a losing wicket Scot :( Kind regards, Julian On Sat, 2003-08-09 at 14:21, Scot Bellamy wrote:> I am trying to convert all my home systems to Linux, and get away from > Windows. This is a end user mailing list... >perhaps you could rever-engineer them Mandrake Linux supports canon printers quite well.
Have you looked at gimp-print [http:\\gimp-print.sf.net] drivers? I couldn't figure out what your printer is exactly and the Canon website lacks any sort of text search function... If all else fails, a decent linux-supported printer shouldn't be too hard to find ;-) Good luck! -Wes Scot Bellamy wrote:> I am trying to convert all my home systems to Linux, and get away from > Windows. after giving up on some canon printers, i found www.turboprint.de. they're even responsive if you ask them to support a new printer model. i have the canon i850 series, and asked them to support it. one month later, voila. it's cheap, and i don't mind supporting their work since they seem to be the only ones supporting modern printers. that said, i now check all hardware before i buy it for compat. with linux. -j
