Does anyone know how to make www.ud.com's Think Cancer Research Program Work under wine? I got it to install, but then it can't contact the server to register. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks in advance, Dan W

Any ideas/suggestions? Debug it by tracing how it tries to contact the server, like by running with --debugmsg +relay,+winsock and pipe the output into a file. Remember that wine can only use services and protocols available by the linux kernel, but can't use protocolls implemented in a windows vxd or sys file. I was able to run a version which I had already installed and registered under Windows, and it seemed to work fine processing data that had already been downloaded. I didn't leave it going long enough for it to contact the server though. Olly
Thanks. I finally got it working after I copied the dll from one of my other computer's system folder. It works perfectly now. Now to get Office 2000 working.(I've done it before, but i don't remember now.)

From what i have heard is they have a linux version of UD, but the files that you process are all still windows executables, meaning that they will have to change their servers and Windoze clients too. There is another company, Parabon, that is doing a 'compute for cancer' program. Their software is written in java so you can run it under either windows or linux. Have a look at www.parabon.com for more info. David Tomas wrote:>"Dan W" wrote... > >>Thanks. >>I finally got it working after I copied the dll from one of my other >>computer's system folder.
