wine users - Feb 2001 - "wineserver: /home/Ani/.wine/config is not a valid registry file"

Okay went to: http://wine.dataparty.no/ form there downloaded the rpm,
http://wine.dataparty.no/rpm/unstripped/wine-cvs-unstripped-013001-1.i386.rpm
downloaded the config file and worked through the install guide. I
edited the config file to mirror my window setup:
c:\ = \mnt\c
d:\ = \temp
e:\ = \web
f:\ = \documents
g:\ = \music
h:\ = \mnt\cdrom
i:\ = \mnt\zip

then as a check did
$wine -v
and got:
Wine Relese 20010112
I then tryed
$wine /mnt/c/c:/WINDOWS/notepad.exe
and was replyed with:
wineserver: /home/Ani/.wine/config is not a valid registry file
WFT? it worked like seconds ago.. 
okies let's take a look at help
$wine --help
works perfectly, I did something like open a message in Netscape or
change the play list in XMMS (I can't rember what), then I try again.
$wine /mnt/c/WINDOWS/notepad.exe
this time I get 
Can't open configuration file /home/TStorm/.wine/config
Now I'm really confused, I'm not logged in as TStorm but Ani. I check
again and it's trying to point to TStorm's profile, anyway it turns out
to be my bad. Correct and reboot and then we're back to the usual to
make sure I didn't do a duff rpm install I removed and re-installed
wine. But what ever I do I can't seem to solve
wineserver: /home/Ani/.wine/config is not a valid registry file
I've changed the config file soo many times, gone back the orignal
suplyed in the install guide at the aformention site. Changed my system
to match config file. Nothing seems to work. How do I solve this
problem?

At a guess, either you have not got this line at the top of the config:

WINE REGISTRY Version 2

or you didn't notice that when ~/.winerc became ~/.wine/config, all
terms are quoted, like so:

[Drive C]
"Path" = "/gp/fault"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "MS-DOS"
"Filesystem" = "win95"
