Hi! Don''t want to rush or put undue pressure on Alex (and as I am not a programmer myself I can only admire the wonders that can be produced by lines of code....) - but: any news on the next version of Weft? I''d be glad to assist with testing if needed. Magnus Larsson

It''s reached a level of stability and functionality where (I think) you could use it for a real project - importing, reading, coding etc. A lot of the new features are working well: multi-lingual support, document editing, annotations. But - a few old Weft 1 features don''t have a user interface yet: queries, code reviews. And it will certainly have some rough edges left. Given this, would it be of interest to have an alpha-release? Or would you rather wait until it at least can do everything that Weft 1 did? best alex
Hi! Sounds great! Spontaneoursly, I''d say an alpha-release would be good. At least to satisfy curiousty. If the feedback would be useful, sure, I''d be fore it, and I can do some alpha-testing. As far as I know, this is the best available option for managing and coding qual data in Linux, so as long as I''m a researcher, I''ll continue to be interested... :) Magnus Alex Fenton skrev:> Hi Magnus > > Magnus Larsson wrote: > >> Don''t want to rush or put undue pressure on Alex (and as I am not a >> programmer myself I can only admire the wonders that can be produced by >> lines of code....) - but: any news on the next version of Weft? I have wanted to have it more polished, but the perfect can be the enemy of the good. It would be useful to know if I have gone wildly wrong. I will look to put a release out in the next few days. At this point, it will probably be source-only on Linux so you may need to install some packages.> As far as I know, this is the best available option for managing and > coding qual data in Linux, so as long as I''m a researcher, I''ll continue > to be interested... :) >Great alex

I too, have had an interview-based project just waiting to start the analysis when time permits. If I can be a tester I will happily do this. I''ve just recently discovered WEFT, but already using it on interviews in an educational evaluation project. Would be willing & able to test version 2 on my PhD interviews as well as the evaluation project, but would prefer to test with the functionalities of the previous version working. Thank you all for your positive responses. It will be particularly useful to test with non-English texts. I will see what I can do this weekend; hopefully the weather will not be too good. Just to note that at this stage I would definitely not recommend testing with any analysis you want to keep. Aside from possible stability issues, it''s possible that the file format may change. alex
I can test it with Simplified Chinese. On Thu, 10 Apr 2008 10:36:59 +0100 Alex Fenton <alex at pressure.to> wrote:> Thank you all for your positive responses. Dear all, As some of you requested it, here is the update of my installation notes of Weft 1.9 under Debian Linux : http://analyses.ishs.ulg.ac.be/logiciels/weft-qda.installation.debian.en.html As usual, any feedbacks about this document will be very appreciated ! I wish you the best for 2009... ...and, again, thank you, Alex, for this great tool ! Christophe -- Methodology for qualitative sociology (ULG - ISHS) http://analyses.ishs.ulg.ac.be/
