When I run ogginfo on a .ogg file I created with oggenc (RC3), it lists some things that I have questions about: 1. Ogginfo lists bitrate_average and bitrate_nominal. Now, bitrate_average (I assume) would mean the overall bitrate average for the entire file but what does bitrate_nominal mean? 2. How is the serial number created? Can I tell something specific about an .ogg file by looking at it? As a side note, a thank you to those developers working on Ogg Vorbis. I am very, very, happy with what I have seen and I will be ripping my whole CD collection to Vorbis instead of MP3.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Flowers

--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body. If the file was encoded at a particular bitrate "bitrate_nominal" will be set to that bitrate. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeff Flowers <jeff@jeffreyf.net> Date: Monday, January 7, 2002 2:33 pm Subject: [vorbis] File Info Question> When I run ogginfo on a .ogg file I created with oggenc (RC3), it > lists some > things that I have questions about: > > 1. Hi Jeff, The serial number is generally just a number at random - you could put any suitable number into the Ogg using -s in OggEnc.. The nominal-bitrate is the "target average" bitrate that the encoder trys to hit.. The average bitrate is calculated from the encoded Ogg file.. Essentially, filesize-in-bits / duration-in-seconds. Divide the result by 1000 for kbps..

J. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Flowers" <jeff@jeffreyf.net> To: <vorbis@xiph.org> Sent: Monday, January 07, 2002 3:33 AM Subject: [vorbis] File Info Question
> When I run ogginfo on a .ogg file I created with oggenc (RC3), it lists some> things that I have questions about: > > 1. (For large files, this difference is small.) I could change ogginfo to include the headers in the bitrate, if someone were to make a compelling argument. :) --- Stan Seibert

--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'vorbis-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscribe' in the body.
