Syslinux - Aug 2005 - isolinux 3.10-pre20 doesn't work at all

I tried isolinux 3.10-pre20 on an Acer Aspire 1501LMi notebook and a Shuttle 
FS-40 desktop box; it fails on both, simply hanging after printing the first 
line.

Last known good version is 3.10-pre16; will try pre17-pre19 when I have some 
time.

Just checked, pre18 is the last working version, pre19 and pre20 hang after 
showing the first line.

I've got the same behavior with pre20 and pre19 on all of my hardware.

(well, I'm assuming all.  3 real boxes and vmware.  With
isolinux-debug.bin it stops after announcing the Root directory's LBA as
0x0000001D )

Please do and tell also which toolchain you use.
( report version of compiler and linker )
