Agent 3.3 on Linux?
I dual boot WinXP and Fedora Linux and would like to run Agent 3.3 when
I boot to Fedora. Has anyone successfully installed WINE (codeweavers?)
on Linux and gotten the current Agent to function? What has your
experience been? What problems have you encountered?
I've seen very little discussion in the newsgroup. The web page that
Mark Prince pointed to a few years ago is no longer active:

Attempted intrusions
I have noticed since commencing posts on this newsgroup, that there
has been a significant increase in attempted intrusions, especially
port 80. It's a pity that IP addresses are in the NG headers. :)

A gmane mystery
I've been collecting redhat.fedora from gmane for several years,
but about a week ago I found that while I could read gmane newsgroups
I was unable to post to them - that is, my posts did not appear.
I was able to post to gmane.test, and could read these posts.
So I assume there is no problem with my From: or other headers.
I take it that the gmane.linux.centos.general is in fact

I want to change the first entry ONLY, without retyping "contr.poly". How do
I do it? I have tried various possibilities and cannot get anything to work.
I found out that the response to options("contrasts") has class

You've got it wrong, those are not servers, those are newsgroups. You need to
go to Google (for example) and search for something like "free news server".

Newsgroup - another try?
As nobody seems to answer my request, I simply post it again.
Is there any reason why the r-help-mailinglist should not be converted to a
newsgroup?
These were the advantages of a newsgroup I mentioned earlier:
-) you can easily search the archives
-) the discussion is faster (I experience that the R-mailinglist has a lag
of about 1 to 2 hours (not for everyone!!!). When I ask a question, I get

Slow File transfer between Samba and Win2k
I have a Samba file server and a dual boot Win98/Win2k client. Copying file from the Client in Win98 to the Samba server gives no problems:
(I copied one 6 mb file)
Samba server -> Win98 Client 550 kb/s
Samba server <- Win98 Client 500 kb/s
But then from Samba server to Win2k Client:
Samba server -> Win2k Client 190 kb/s
Samba server <- Win2k Client 18 kb/s
Because of

AW: Newsgroup - another try?
| I can think of two disadvantages of a newsgroup
|
| 1) Access
| Everyone with an email address can sub_scribe to the R mailing lists.
| However, not everyone has a news feed. I don't.
Everyone who has access to the internet can also have a news-account. There
are a lot of good free news-servers (most of the time hosted by
universities), and on the client-site you can often use your

How do downgrade mozilla ?
Hello
Sorry to say this to everyone, but since I installed CentOS 6 a month ago
I found that both Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird crash big time
(meaning every day and even more than once a day) with a large INBOX or
newsgroup, or with many tabs open in the Firefox windows. I also keep my
work computer running over night usually, maybe this is also a factor.
Knode does not do a

OT: list format vs newsgroup format
Arrrrgh
I hate trying to sift through all these messages and keep track of the
various threads going on .........
Who else on here prefers the newsgroup/threaded approach? If you haven't
already, check out news.gmane.org for mailing lists turned into newsgroups
readable by news readers.......
only problem being that this list requires list membership before

is this mailing list connected to the wine newsgroup?
I wrote two times here and I found my mails in comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine.

Installing Smart Suite 97
I get to 53 percent of files copied and I get the message that
c:\lotuscomponent/lttsn32.dll is in use by another application and
terminates install. Help me?
BTW I get a message about contacting Microsoft support about mytab11.c.
Well this is a Microsoft clean installation. Took me hours to the point
where the installer will load and run.

R-help in a newsgroup
Hi,
I find a lot of the R-help email traffic overloads my inbox. My IT
managers are not really happy for me to be subscribed to several
high-traffic email lists. I don't want to lose my contact with the
R-help emails, so I'm having to consider various ways of handling the
traffic. Anyhow, I'm wondering how many people on the R-help email
list would prefer that most of the traffic

Time for Usenet R Group?
I probably shouldn't suggest this, because I can't volunteer to implement
it. However, I bring it up in the hopes that if (1) others agree and (2)
the R core group think it a good idea that a suitable volunteer will come
forward.
I am finding that the flood of R email messages is becoming difficult to
deal with, even using filters, etc., in my email client. Would we be

S: expert mailing list for general statistical questions
Hello R users and experts
Once in a while I have got questions that are not so much
R-related but related to (social scientific) statistics in
general. R-help would be the wrong list for such posts, and I am
looking for a similar mailing list or newsgroup (nntp). (It is
just a personal taste that I don't like web forums.) I have
googled and found a variety here:

OT: Forum or mailing list for Bash-related questions?
Hi,
The subject says it all. After a few years of writing scripts the quick
and dirty way, I've decided to take the plunge and learn Bash correctly,
using the O'Reilly Bash Cookbook. I'm currently looking for the right
place to ask questions, but curiously enough, Google searches about
"bash forum" result in nothing conclusive. I took a peek in the
