I have an array such as: x=c(sum=77, min=4,max=9, count=5, min=4,max=9, count=8 , test=77) I wish to remove values where both the name and the value are identical. eg. i wish to end up with: x2=c(sum=77, min=4,max=9, count=5, count=8, test=77) What is the "best" way to do this? --------------------------------- Park yourself in front of a world of choices in alternative

Tinn-R
Hello, I want to use the free distribution of R (R REvolution 3.2) and Tinn-R editor as well. Unfortunately they don't cooperate. In Tinn-R commands: send selection, send line etc. don't work. Do you have any idea how to resolve this problem? Best, Robert

Organizations where IT has approved the use of R software
Hi Gang, I realize this post is not directly related to programing issues with R, however, it appears this may be the best place to ask my question. I am putting forward a request that R be considered "approved" software in my organization. Never an easy task, this is made much more difficult given that it is open source software (sends the IT gang into little fits). So, I am

how to save a plot in a given size in inches or centimeters
Hi there ! I'm ploting graphics and I'd like to save them as a .jpeg file for example, but with a given size (in inches or cm). I tryed the function windows() but I think it just changes the size of the window and not the size of the graph that you're saving. Then I tryed with the function par(din=(width=... height=...) ) but I guess it's protected and I can't change the

substitute "x" for "pattern" in a list, while preservign list "structure". lapply, gsub, list...?
I am experimenting with some of the common r functions. I had a question re:using "gsub" (or some similar functions) on the contents of a list. I want to design a function that looks at "everything" contained din a list, and anytime it finds the text string "pattern" replace it with "x". I also wish to preserve the "structure" of the original

function similar to "get" that works for both an object, and elements of an object?
#Is there a single function similar to "get" that works for both an object, and elements of an object ? #(I want the function to be able to return objects, and/or the deeper elements of an object.) #(i.e. elements of a dataframe and/or list)? #e.g. tempdf = data.frame(a=c(4,5,6) , b=c(10,11,12) ) templist= list(x=tempdf, y=c(1,2)) get('tempdf') #works as desired

Ecological Niche Modelling on R
Dear all, I have strong interest on Ecological Niche Model, which in general use a set of environmental variables (continuous, categorical etc) and Presence (or Presense/Absence) records for species. I think that "grasp" and "adehabitat" packages could help me on these tasks. My input layers are on ASC format, and the record of species is a data-frame with X, Y, name of

how to pass "arguments" to a function within a function?
I have searched the r-help files but have not been able to find an answer to this question. I apologize if this questions has been asked previously. (Please excuse the ludicrousness of this example, as I have simplified my task for the purposes of this help inquiry. Please trust me that something like this will in fact be useful what I am trying to accomplish. I am using R 2.4.1 in Windows XP.)

AT&T Researchers and the New York Times
Is anyone in the leadership of the R-project going to contact the New York Times and clarify that the article gave remarkably short shrift to the people who designed the user interface for R, to a large extent AT&T researchers from an earlier generation? It would be the appropriate thing to do. The R team did not develop the user interface for R, the designers of the S programming language

Optimization in R similar to MS Excel Solver
Dear all, I am trying to find the solution for the optimization problem focused on the finding minimum cost. I used the solution proposed by excel solver, but there is a restriction in the number of variables. My data consists of 300 rows represent cities and 6 columns represent the centres. It constitutes a cost matrix, where the cost are distances between each city and each of six centres. ..+

Time Series Count Models
Hello, I'm trying to model the entry of certain firms into a larger number of distinct markets over time. I have a short time series, but a large cross section (small T, big N). I have both time varying and non-time varying variables. Additionally, since I'm modeling entry of firms, it seems like the number of existing firms in the market at time t should depend on the number of firms at
