1.8.1 and subsetting dataframes
I've encountered something that didn't arise using earlier versions of
R (Linux).
A dataframe is created and new columns added to it by doing
calculations using apply with various functions on some of the
original columns. It's somewhat too involved to give a toy example
that's reproducible. However, the resulting phenemonon can be
characterised by the following:

Thanks for all your discussions which I read offline and enhance my
knowledge.
I just want to know how to make yield curve by bootstrapping using R.
Please give me some subject-matter links and code links.

[LLVMdev] Future of the LLVM OpenMP runtime
Now that we've kick-started the LLVM OpenMP runtime discussion, I want
to make a concrete proposal to get a test suite up and running for the
LLVM OpenMP runtime. I don't think the current setup as an LLVM
subproject is sustainable going forward without some form of testing
support, automated or otherwise.
The motivation: It's difficult to make changes to the source without

What is the meaning of the "4:", "2:", "30:" and "1:" prefixes for the
following entries in yum.log? Most entries in yum.log don't have

Behaviour of standard error estimates in lmRob and the like
I am looking at MM-estimates for some interlab comparison work. The
usual situation in this particular context is a modest number of results
from very expensive methods with abnormally well-characterised
performance, so for once we have good "variance" estimates (which can
differ substantially for good reason) from most labs. But there remains
room for human error or unexpected chemistry

Re: Asterisk and MWI
MessageMelissa -
I added the "fromuser=AnyName" to my sip.conf file stations and that, in fact, corrected the problem. The MWI now works flawlessly.
I would recommend that Aastra/Sayson pursue this with the Asterisk team so that it is listed as a known issue or to have Asterisk patched to fix it. I will submit a bug on it as well. I'm copying the Users Mailing List on this.

Piping AVI to ffmpeg2theora
I wish to transcode an AVI from 29fps to 15fps theora. I have tried many
combinations.
The nearest I have so far is to:
1)
ffmpeg -i input.avi -f avi -vcodec rawvideo -acodec pcm_s16le -r 15 -ar
22050 -ac 1 intermediate.avi
then
2)
./ffmpeg2theora-0.15.linux.bin -f avi -c1 -H 22050 -o out.ogg
intermediate.avi
This gives me an output I want, however, the intermediate uncompressed

Fwd: Re: [friday topic]: what exactly is statistical computing
This is a very fascinating discussion topic. I find I run into
some fundamental differences in interpretation of the phrase "statistical
computing". I think of it as writing programs or functions, such as R or packages
in R, and of understanding the numerical analysis behind these functions.
I exclude USING computer programs, such as R, for data analysis from my

kernel panic caused by zfs/sa.c
Hello,
I'm experiencing a kernel panic that appears to be caused by zfs.
No errors are making it into /var/log/messages, but here is the error

creating a world map of eco-climatic zones
Hello R users:
I would like to produce a world map with countries colored according to whether
they fall into one of 7 eco-climatic zones. For simplicity, each country is
allocated to exactly 1 eco-climatic zone. For this purpose I have looked at the
map and mapdata packages, which contain world maps composed of polygons (1 for
each country, it seems). Each of the polygons can be referred to by a

What are the various models of DID providers
Hi,
Inspired by a recent rant about one particular provider, I am getting
very curious about something I've never mastered. I'd like someone to
explain this here or at least post a link or two that can educate me
and probably countless others who have no knowledge in this area. I'm
sure there are several of you reading this that know all about the
subject.
What are the various
