Maple and R
Hi R-users,
Can Maple function be exported to R?
I have a jacobian matrix (4X4)?from maple in algebraic form which involve modified Bessel function of the first kind.
I just wonder whether we can use algebraic form into R before the value of the parameters can be estimated.
Thank you so much for your attention and help.

Wine and Maple 6
Hello list
I have installed Maple 6 with no problems. It even put a shortcut on
my Kubuntu Dapper Desktop but when I run Maple, I could see the splash
screen then everything disappears. I don't know if this means that
Maple 6 crashes. Any idea of troubleshooting?

installing maple 8 - Java error
I am trying to install my copy of maple 8 for windows, using wine in mandriva 2008.1. Apparently there is a difficulty with handling the java code for the installantion front-end. Below I report the log file showing the error.
One curious thing is that I get very close to make wine run the maple 8 version I have already installed in a windows XP partition. The maple window correctly pops up, but

Maple, MathCad, Greek letters (was: Greek letters)
Hi.
I was having trouble getting Greek letters and mathematical
symbols in maple under wine, and a search turned up a few messages
suggesting others have the same problem. In particular,

Odd behavior in histogram breaks?
I am looking at histogram breaks, and notice something odd:
> foo <- hist(runif(10000),breaks=20)
> length(foo$breaks)
[1] 21
This makes sense to me.
> foo <- hist(runif(10000),breaks=200)
> length(foo$breaks)
[1] 201
This also makes sense.
BUT

Looping over groups
Hello,
My R skills are somewhere between novice and intermediary, and I am hoping that some of you very helpful forum members, whom I've seen work your magic on other peoples' problems/questions, can help me here.
I have a matrix with the following format:

Gaussian Quadrature Numerical Integration In R
Hi All,
I am trying to use A Gaussian quadrature over the interval (-infty,infty) with weighting function W(x)=exp(-(x-mu)^2/sigma) to estimate an integral.
Is there a way to do it in R? Is there a function already implemented which uses such weighting function.
I have been searching in the statmode package and I found the function "gauss.quad(100, kind="hermite")" which uses

creating vectors from a list
Hi guys,
I have a list of 250 numbers as a result of using the ?by function!
List of 246

- attr(*, "dimnames")=List of 1
The problem is that each list of 250 has different length! I would like to get the values of each list in a vector like vector_0 = (22,11,31,..), is this

how to use quadrature to integrate some complicated functions
Hello to all,
I am having trouble with intregrating a complicated uni-dimensional function
of the following form
Phi(x-a_1)*Phi(x-a_2)*...*Phi(x-a_{n-1})*phi(x-a_n).
Here n is about 5000, Phi is the cumulative distribution function of
standard normal,
phi is the density function of standard normal, and x ranges over
(-infty,infty).
My idea is to to use quadrature to handle this integral. But

optim with constraints
Hi, dear R users
I am a newbie in R and I wantto use the method of meximum likelihood
to fit a Weibull distribution to my survival data. I use "optim" as
follows:

= TRUE)
My question is: how do I setup the constraints so that the two
parametrs of Weibull to be pisotive? Or should I use other function

Tukey HSD following lme
Hi everyone
I'm using Tukey HSD as post-hoc test following a lme analysis. I'm
measuring hemicelluloses in different species treated with three
different CO2 concentrations (l=low, m=medium, h=high). The whole
experiment is a split-plot design and the Tukey-function from the
package multcomp is suitable for lme-analysis with random factors.
The analysis works fine but I get a non
