bug with rpois (PR#9106)
The R poisson random generator rpois appears to have a bug for
theta 10 or larger. The sample mean of the pseudo variates is too
small: sample mean approx theta - 0.5.
I use Version 1.1.1 (August 15, 2000) Of R on a Dell OptiPlex computer
with the
Windows XP Professional operating system.
Has this bug been fixed in later versions?
(I found another reported rpois bug, but it appears to be

Means of Monte Carlo simulated lists
Hello,
I am doing simulations, and I generate a list at each iteration (with
three component matrices in the example below), saving the results in
a list. For example, after two iterations, I have something like
> str(sim.theta)
List of 2

help on drawing right colors within a grouped xyplot (Lattice)
Hi,
I've lost my mind on it... I have to scatterplot two vectors, grouped by a third variable, with two different dimensions according to whether each cell line in the plot is sensitive or resistant to a given drug, and with a different color for each of 9 tissues of origin.
Here's what I've done:

script problem to obtain pairs of overlap values
Dear,
I wrote a code to estimate the overlap between two kernel distributions.
The script must estimates the overlap among each columns of data frame.
With S sampled species (columns) in my data frame, I want obtain
S(S-1)/2 pairs of overlap values between species.
However, the code is not well write at all (only an overlap value is
produced) and I can't find the solution.
To illustrate the

Read the data from a text file and reshape the data
I have a data set for different time intervals. The data has three comment
lines before data for each time interval. For each time interval there are
500 data points. I want to change the dataset such that I have the following
format:
t1 t2 t3 ................
0.00208 0.00417 0.00625 .................
a1 a2 a3 ...................

CentOS 4.5, kernel-2.6.9-55, NTPD trouble
Following the update this morning, NTP is failing with the same symptoms
that I saw several years ago (pre-CentOS, I believe) when Anaconda
mistakenly blessed my ASUS A7N8X, Athlon (CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+
stepping 00) based system with an SMP kernel. The symptom is that NTPD
never establishes sync with a server, showing over the top jitter values.

Unwanted Levels in R
I searched the mailing list archives and found one post relevant to my problem,
but it was not specific enough to solve my problem.
I am reading in a large file of data (I believe it is in ASCII format). I have tried
reading the file in as a data frame and as a list, and both methods result in
unwanted levels being created which leads to problems when I try to copy
or reference certain cells.

tip: large plots
Hi all,
I'm working with a bunch of large graphs, and stumbled across
something useful. Probably many of you know this, but I didn't and so
others might benefit.
Using pch="." speeds up plotting considerably over using symbols.
> x <- runif(1000000)
> y <- runif(1000000)
> system.time(plot(x, y, pch="."))

Does any one knows why should I get the following error message, when trying

scatterplot3d
Dear R-help,
I am having trouble with your scatterplot3d program. For help with this
problem I was directed to your address by Martin Maechler at "
r-core-bounces at r-project.org." I'm also sending a CC to "
r-core-owner at r-project.org" as I'm not yet certain of the proper address to
use for this.
I have R version 2.8.1 and have downloaded 'scatterplot3d.'

[LLVMdev] On LLD performance
I spent a week to optimize LLD performance and just wanted to share things
what I found. Also if there's anyone who have a good idea on how to make it
faster, I'd like to hear.
My focus is mainly on Windows, but my optimizations are generally platform
neutral. I aim both single-thread and multi-thread performance.
r231434 <http://reviews.llvm.org/rL231454> is a change that has the

R: Re: R: Re: PXEbooting very slow
I made other tests. It's not a matter of Win98 versus WinXP, things
change passing from tftpd32 v310beta to v3.33. This version seems to
work fine, but the logs show problems. Here is the complete log with
