LOCFIT: What's it doing?
Dear R-users,
One of the main reasons I moved from GAUSS to R (as an econometrician) was because of the existence of the library LOCFIT for local polynomial regression. While doing some checking between my former `GAUSS code' and my new `R code', I came to realize LOCFIT is not quite doing what I want. I wrote the following example script:

Testing Nonlinear Restrictions
Dear all,
I'm interested in testing 2 nonlinear restrictions on coefficients of a nls object. Is there a package for doing this? Something in the lines of `test(nls object, res=c("res 1","res 2"),...)'
I only found the function delta.method in the alr3 library that calculates the se of a singleton nonlinear restriction of a nls object using the delta method.

Extracting File Basename without Extension
Dear all,
The basename() function returns the extension also:
> myfile <- "path1/path2/myoutput.txt"
> basename(myfile)
[1] "myoutput.txt"
Is there any other function where it just returns
plain base:
"myoutput"
i.e. without 'txt'

Error in Calling C++ function from R!!!
Hello,
I tried to call an external function of R from the following code in C++:
void prodgdot(double *x, double *y, int *n, double *output)
{
int i;
*output=0;
for (i=0;i<*n;i++)
{
*output+=x[i]*y[i];
}
}
I compiled it using from my working directory in linux terminal and I think
it's ok:

eMail results out of R
Hi everyone,
I did my homework and read the posting guideline :-)
I want to eMail the results of a computing automatically. So I get the results (the parameters of a garch process) and I want to eMail them to another person. How can I do that?
Thx

R CMD BATCH w/o inputs?
dear R wizards---I must be standing on the line (German
translation---this must be obvious). This is probably embarrassingly
obvious to anyone, except to me right now. maybe it is late.
I would like to run my R code in batch, but not see the R compilations
and my R source code---I just want to see the same output that I would
see if I ran source("i.R"), but direct it to a file. I can

redirect plot device automatically
Dear all,
Every time that I need to generate I plot output as figure I use something like
png("myoutput.png")
plot(rnorm(100)*1.0,col=4)
points(rnorm(100)*0.5,col=2,pch=0)
dev.off()
But now I need to generate a lot of outputs and it could not be done in a for looping where I can change the names. So I would like to know if is there a way of I automatically redirect the output from my

more or less pager
R-users,
(forgive my return adres)
I've been breaking my head why R---which i find fabulous, by the
way---does not pipe interactive output through a pager (more or less),
like it does with help(), or like GNU Octave does with arrays with more
than terminal height rows.
Maybe it is my installation (Debian/GNU Linux). Maybe it is my
configuration, but i don't think so because with

Using influence plots and obtaining id numbers
I am a novice R user, and I am having difficulty understanding R's influence
plots.
I am trying to remove outliers from a particular variable, "sib." I am able
to generate influence plots and further outlier information such as below
(which is a shortened example). For my analyses, I end up excluding the
points R refers to, 7, 18, 26, and 105. However, my question is, how can I

plm "within" models: is the correct F-statistic reported?

[LLVMdev] Code Ownership - Buildbot
Here is a trivial reason why I have not propagated http://bb.pgr.jp/ .
Sometimes (but I suppose rarely) he reports false alarm in a few
points. He'd send blames to the llvm-testresults if his master (aka I)
knew he were mature.
I don't also want him promoted and called as one of official
buildbots. He is my pet, though, I expect he should be helpful to the
developers.

Strange behavior zfs and soalris cluster
Hi All,
Two and three-node clusters with SC3.2 and S10u3 (120011-14).
If a node is rebooted when using SCSI3-PGR the node is not
able to take the zpool by HAStoragePlus due to reservation conflict.
SCSI2-PGRE is okay.
Using the same SAN-LUN:s in a metaset (SVM) and HAStoragePlus
works okay with PGR and PGRE. (both SMI and EFI-labled disks)
If using scshutdown and restart all nodes then it will

Memory Issue
Dear All,
I have an issue on memory use in R programming.
Here is the brief story: I want to simulate the power of a nonparameteric
test and compare it with the existing tests. The basic steps are
1. I need to use Newton method to obtain the nonparametric MLE that involves
the inversion of a large matrix (n-by-n matrix, it takes about less than 3
seconds in average to get the MLE. n = sample

Problems in batch mode
Dear R-users,
I am trying to run some simulations in batch mode. In an older version
of the program, I used
rterm --vsize=100M --nsize=5000K --restore --save <input file> output file,
however, in the new version R 2.2.0 , the parameters vsize and nsize are
ignored.
I can use the command memory.limit to increase memory, but I am not sure if
this corresponds to vsize and nsize.
