{R} How to extract correctly from vector?
Dear list,
I have problem that I cannot solve and would like to ask your opinion. I
tried to ask a few days ago already but got no answer and all my attempts to
solve it by myself since then failed. Sorry for repeated posting! Here the
problem broken down a bit.
My problem basically is, that I want to use the elements of a character
vector as names for objects and by recalling only the

get information on .C code
Dear R list,
I have a package downloaded and looked up a function in there. Now I find
that it uses C code (.C call) to do part of its job.
However, when I wanted to look that part up by using getAnywhere() I was
told that no object of that name could be found. Then I tried typing C.("
funct.name") which only caused R to crash.
Is there any way to look up the function?
I'm not

Help writing basic loop
Hello,
I would like to write a loop to 1) run 100 linear regressions, and 2)
compile the slopes of all regression into one vector. Sample input data
are:
y1<-rnorm(100, mean=0.01, sd=0.001)
y2<-rnorm(100, mean=0.1, sd=0.01)
x<-(c(10,400))
#I have gotten this far with the loop
for (i in 1:100) {
#create the linear model for each data set
model1<-lm(c(y1[i],y2[i])~x)

print to .jpeg
Evening folks,
I'm trying to print a series of graphs to .jpeg using a variable as the
title, but run into the difficultly that I can't find a way to append the
file extension to the .jpeg (in this case extensionless!) files.
Example:
----
species.name="CussoniaHolstii"
dia<-10:100
biomass = -21.4863 + 0.5797 * (dia ^ 2)
biomass
jpeg(species.name)

Quick R syntax question
Hi --
I had a pretty quick R question since unfortunately I have not been able to
find an answer on Google. It shouldn't take much more than a minute to
answer.
I'm trying to add up the major gleason grade and minor gleason grade for an
analysis of patients with prostate cancer. One column has values under
"Major Gleason" and another column has values under "Minor

R endnote entry
I know citation() gives the R citation to be used in publications. Has
anyone put this into endnote nicely? I'm not very experienced with
endnote, and the way I have it at the momeny the 'R Development Core
Team' becomes R. D. C. T. etc.
Cheers.

Make R 'Beep'
Dear all,
I would like to ask you if R can produce any kind of sound. It would be useful when code execution stops R to notify me by playing some sound.
Is that possible in R?
I would like to thank you in advance for your help
Best Regards

How to adjust the y-axis range in barplot properly
Hello R-Users,
it might be a rather simple problem I have, but I couldn't find any
solution online. Thus, here is my problem:
I would like to adjust the y-axis range in a barplot, since all my
values are >70. Therefore I would like to only visualize the y-axis from
60-100 (example 1).
The problem is, the range of the y-axis is adjusted, but the barsize
stays the same and vanishes from

Probit Analysis
Hello all,
I have a very simple set of data and I would like to analyze them with
probit analysis.
The data are:
X Event Trial
100 8 8
75 8 8
50 6 8
25 4 8
10 2 8
0 0 8
I want to estimate the value of X that will give a 95% hit rate
(Event/Trial) and the corresponding
95% CI. Anyone can offer some help? Thanks!!

map points from scatterplot3d onto 2d fitted plane
Dear R helpers,
I have a 3D scatter plot that I have generated from scatterplot3d (which
looks great- thanks!) and I can see that the points in my graph fall in a
plane.
Following the example 5 from 3D scatter plot (below) I have fitted a
regression plane.
Now what I would like to do is a rotation so that my new co-ordinate system
is about the fitted plane (by finding the normal to the plane

Does POSIXlt extract date components properly?
I would like to use POSIX classes to store dates and extract components of
dates. Following the example in Spector ("Data Manipulation in R"), I
create a date
> mydate = as. POSIXlt('2005-4-19 7:01:00')
I then successfully extract the day with the command
> mydate$day
[1] 19
But when I try to extract the month
> mydate$mon
[1] 3
it returns the wrong month. And

stability measures for heirarchical clustering
Dear R users,
I'm interested in measuring the stability of a heirarchical clustering, of
the overall clustering and finding sub clusters (from cutting the
heirarchical clustering at different levels) which demonstrate stability.
I saw some postings on the R help from a while back about bootstrapping for
clustering (using sample and generating a consesus tree with a web based
tool CONSENSE)

combination of different vector values
Hi,
Thanks in advance for the help.
I have a few vectors and I need to get all the combinations of the vector
values.
Normally I would use a few for-loops to do that.
e.g x1_c(1,3,5)
x2_c(2,5,6)
for (i in x1) {
for (j in x2) {
...
}}
My problem is that I don't know how many vectors there are ahead of time,
so
I don't know how many for-loops I need. Any

k- means cluster analysis
Hi all,
I am trying to run the k-means cluster analysis using the function kmeans
in the package cluster.
The data are:
x = c(-0.26, -0.23, -0.05, -0.20, 0.30, -0.84, -0.10, -0.12, 0.10, -0.31,
-0.19, 0.18, -0.26,
-0.23, -0.37, -0.23)
I've got two different solutions when I ran this function over a few times:
kmeans(x, centers=2)
The first solution gives the following:

probit analysis for correlated binary data
Dear all,
I have a question on the dose-response estimation with clustered/ correlated binary data.
I would like to estimate the hit rate for a certain test at various concentration levels. The test is used
on 5 subjects, and each subject is tested 20 times. If we assume that the 100 samples are
independent, the hit rate estimate is unbiased, but the variance is under-estimated. The other

help subsetting data based on date AND time
Dear R Community,
I am new to R, and have a question that I suspect may be quite simple but is
proving a formidable roadblock for me. I have a large data set that
includes water-quality measurements collected over many 24-hour periods.
The date and time of sample collection are in a combined Date/Time field in
the format yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss. I need to be able to subset the data for

cbind in aggregate formula - based on an existing object (vector)
Hello!
I am aggregating using a formula in aggregate - of the type:
aggregate(cbind(var1,var2,var3)~factor1+factor2,sum,data=mydata)
However, I actually have an object (vector of my variables to be aggregated):
myvars<-c("var1","var2","var3")
I'd like my aggregate formula (its "cbind" part) to be able to use my
"myvars" object. Is it
