creating rainbow gradients
Hi, how can I create a rainbow gradient in R? For example, let's say I have
a plot of y = x...and I want the plot to go from red -> orange -> yellow ->
green -> blue -> etc.
Right now, I know how to do something like go from red to blue, using the
plotrix library:
library(plotrix)

color2d.maplot error
Dear all
I am using color2D.maplot to map some matrixes to plot. everything works fine. It seems that when my matrix contains only the same value color2D.maplot returns the following error:
color2D.matplot(estimatedsr,redrange=c(0,1),greenrange=c(0,.5),bluerange=c(0,.5),xlab="x",ylab="y",main=sprintf('Estimated'),show.legend=TRUE,show.values=TRUE)

combination of scatterplot and image graph
Dear R users,
I'm interested in a combination of a scatterplot and an image graph.
I have two large vectors. Because in the scatterplot some areas are
sparsely and others densely populated, I want to see the points, and
I also want their color to be changed based on their density (similar
to a heat map). Is there a function that can do that?
Thank you,
b.

Color2D.matplot uniform color range
Hi all.
I am having a problem using color2D.matplot
I am trying to visualize several different matrices under two color ranges.
One color range corresponds to values less than 1 and the second color range
for values greater than 1. However, the minimum value of each matrix differs
and is automatically set to have the smallest value in the color range.
Similarly, the maximum value of each matrix

Colour-coding intervals on a line
Hi,
This is a simple version of something that I am trying to do. If I can
sort the problem basically, I figure I should be able to sort it for the
program I'm writing (which would take longer to explain).
I need to know if there is any way of using different colours for
different intervals of a line on a graph. Eg. If I plot the line y=x for
x=1:10, and split this line into 106 intervals

ordering in 'gnls' with 'corCompSymm' corStruct
Dear R-devel members,
While writing a new correlation structure similar to 'corCompSymm' and
intended to be used with 'gnls', I got puzzled with the 'Initialize' method.
Using 'Initialize' before 'gnls' may be regarded as a mean to set an
initial value for the corStruct parameter. However 'gnls' does not work
properly with a

panel data analysis possible with mle2 (bbmle)?
Dear R community,
I want to estimate coefficients in a (non-linear) system of equations using
'mle2' from the "bbmle" package. Right now the whole data is read in as just
one long time series, when it's actually 9 cross sections with 30 observations
each. I would like to be able to test and correct for autocorrelation but
haven't found a way to do this in this package.

RDMA Volume Mount Not Functioning for Debian 3.4.beta4
Anyone ele having these issues mounting RDMA only volumes under Ubuntu? Install of Gluster via: https://launchpad.net/~semiosis/+archive/ubuntu-glusterfs-3.4
I'm guessing this build is looking for an include somewhere that is just misplaced?

Categorical bubble plot
Hi,
I do not have much R experience just the basics, so please excuse
any obvious questions.
I would like to create bubble plot that have Categorical data on the x and y
axis and then the diameter if the bubble the value related to x and y.
Attached to the email is a pic of what I would like to do.
I do hope someone can help me.

plotrix 2.8-3
Hi all,
I'm announcing this version of plotrix because I have made a couple of
changes that will affect users. Although the function that used to be
known as hierobarp is fairly new, there may be some users who are
surprised when they find that it has changed its name to barNest. I will
probably rename the two functions hierobarp.svymean and
hierobarp.svyprop in the next version to

gls yields much smaller std. errors with different base for contrasts
Dear List,
After running a compound symmetric model using gls, I realized that
the default contrasts were not the ones that made the most sense given
the biological relationships among the factor levels. When I either
changed the factor levels to re-arrange the order they occur in the
gls model (not shown below) OR specifically change the contrasts I get
the exact same estimates for the

Heeelp - no idea what''s going wrong.
I''m working on a simple CMS. The main data type are "listings" a listing
habtm (has_and_belongs_to_many) categories and subcategories.
Subcategories belong_to categories. Subcategories are basically the same
as categories, but they are treated differently in a few situations.
The problem is, I can''t seem to write the view/controller/model code
that allows me to

Question about graphics in R
Considering the R function/plot shown below, I wonder whether
it is possible to do the following changes:
(1) Change the color of each point to be picked from
list of colors according to its z-value. (The range
should be from blue (z=0) to red (z=1).) The grid
should then be omitted. [I have seen "terrain.colors", but
don't know how to use it for this purpose.]
(2) Add two lines to

Many-to-many relationship with multiple models?
I have a simple CMS I''m creating, and the primary model is the
"listing". A listing habtm (has_and_belongs_to_many) categories (up to
two) - allowing the listing to print its categories and a category to
print its listings. I also need subcategories, which are different from
categories in two ways: a listing can have as many subcategories (from
it''s two categories)

Finding items from two models - then merging them
I have a model, listings. Listings habtm categories and subcategories,
which are seperate models.
What I want to do is search categories for certain items, like so:
@categories = Category.find(:all, :conditions => ["name LIKE ?",
"#%{:search_string}%"
and subcategories for the same:
@subcategories = Subcategory.find(:all, :conditions => ["name LIKE ?",

unexpected "false convergence"
I've come into some code that produces different results under R 2.1.1 and R
2.2.1. I'm really unfamiliar with the libraries in question (MASS and nlme),
so I don't know if this is a bug in my code, or a regression in R. If it's a
bug on my end, I'd appreciate any advice on potential causes and relevant
documentation.
The code:

Hello,
I am working with s.multinom() from the ade4package. I tried to plot the

GVN / Alias Analysis issue with llvm.masked.scatter/gather intrinsics
+ a few others.
After following this rabbit hole a bit, there are a lot of mutually
recursive calls, etc, that may or may not do the right thing with vectors
of pointers.
I can fix *this* particular bug with the attached patch.
However, it's mostly papering over stuff. Nothing seems to know what to do
with a memorylocation that is a vector of pointers. They all expect
memorylocation to be a
