gap.barplot doesn't support data arrays?
I am trying to make a barplot with a broken axis using gap.barplot (in the
indispensable plotrix package). This works well when the data is a vector:
> twogrp<-c(rnorm(10)+4,rnorm(10)+20)
> gap.barplot(twogrp,gap=c(8,16),xlab="Index",ytics=c(3,6,17,20),ylab="Group
values",main="Barplot with gap")
But when the data is an array (for a bar plot with multiple

subplot strange behavoir
Hello,
Below is some example code that should reproduce an error I'm encountering
while trying to create a tiff plot with two subplots. If I run just the
following bit of code through the R GUI the result is what I'd like to have
appear in the saved tiff image:
x<-seq(0:20)
y<-c(1,1,2,2,3,4,5,4,3,6,7,1,1,2,2,3,4,5,4,3,6)
plot(x,y,type="l",las=1,ylim=c(0,12))

Font size R
Hi everyone.
I'm using this following code:
pdf(file="Fig5.pdf", width = 4.86, height = 6.29, pointsize = 10, family
='Times')
par(mfcol = c(3,2), mai = c(0.4,0.8,0,0), omi = c(0.7, 0, 0.7, 0.1));
hist( rnorm(100) )
dev.off()
When I open this in any vectorial software (like Illustrator), it says that
my font size is 7 instead of 10 that I specified.
I have tried

color2D.matplot axis names
Hi,
I finally came up with a nice colored matrixplot, using the color2D.matplot
function of the plotrix package. But I can't assign xtics and ytics to this
plot. I made sure that the matrix has correct colnames() and rownames().
Here's what I do:
a=matrix(1:16, 4, 4)
colnames(a) <- c("X1", "X2", "X3", X4)
rownames(a) <- c("Y1",

understanding cex (R plots)
Hi,
I try to make multiple plots look as similar as possible.
I create each plot with pdf(), using the same height but different width in inch.
For some plots I use the layout() function to draw multiple subplots side by side in one pdf.
For each plot I use the same cex values for the different plotting functions
(cex.axis, cex.lab, cex.points etc.)
Still, when I compare the pdf's the

unexpected par('pin') behaviour
hi everybody,
I noticed the following: in one of my scripts 'layout' is used to
generate a (approx. square) grid of variable dimensions (depending on
no. of input files). if the no. of subplots (grid cells) becomes
moderately large (say > 9) I use a construct like
###layout grid computation and set up occurs here###

Greek letter
Hi everyone.
I'm trying to use small letter phi in a graph produced in R. However, the
small letter phi does not look as it should.
In fact, it looks like this:
http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n3963311/Untitled.png
instead of what is here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phi
Here's the code I use:
expression(phi [1])
Anyone has an idea?

Error in plot.new() : Figure margins too large
Hello,
was could be the reason for such an error message???
I'd like to create a window with 10x6 barplot and save it as pdf.
I tried:
pdf("histogram.pdf",width=7, height=7)
windows(cols, rows)
par(mfcol = c(rows,cols))
sapply(mat, calcHist)
dev.off()
Within the method of sapply, I call barplot
What is wrong???

issues with gap.plot function
Dear all:
I have the following codes:
Xdata<-c(2,3,8,9,10)
Ydata<-1:5
gap.plot(Xdata, Ydata,gap=c(5,6),gap.axis="x",type="o")
However, the type='o' seems only work on the first part of gap plot, the second half of the plot always just points, you can not add lines on that part, any help will be highly appreciated. I would like to have these two parts of

Plotting lines and points on the second plot when using gap.plot in plotrix
Hi
My question is simple - the gap.plot function in the plotrix package
allows users to draw graphs that have a broken axis. However, I want to
then add a line to the "second" plot, but can't.
Eg:
twogrp<-c(rnorm(10)+4,rnorm(10)+20)
gap.plot(twogrp,rnorm(20),gap.bounds=c(8,16),gap.axis="x",xlab="X
values",
xtics=c(4,7,17,20),ylab="Y

Inserting a plot into another
Hi everyone.
I would like to know if it was possible to insert a plot into another one.
For example I have a plot and I would like to add a smaller plot in the top
right corner.
Best regards,
Phil

ggplot2 facets as rows and columns
Does anyone (Hadley??) know if there's a straightforward
way in ggplot2 to get data divided by a single factor to
plot as a rectangular grid of subplots? So far I've only
been able to get such data plotted as a single row or
single column of skinny subplots. The code below gives
an example implemented with lattice, and my best
attempt in ggplot2

mixed effects models with nested factors
Hi everybody,
I am trying to fit a model with the lmer function for mixed effects. I have an experimental design consisting of 5 field plots. Each plot is divided in 12 subplots where the influence of three factors on the growing of tree seedlings is tested: (1) seed (1 = presence; 0 = absence); (2) seedling species (oak holm vs. pine); (3) treatment (three different treatments). googleVis plot and knitr/sweave
Dear R users.
I'm currently making a report with knitr (RStudio) where I would like to
plot a googleVis map. However, the map generated is an HTML file which I
don't know how to integrate it in my report.
So my question is how to include a map generated with googleVis in a PDF
created with knitr/sweave.

List or matrix of object
Hi everyone.
Is it possible in R to create a matrix or a list (vector) or R object. For
instance, I have
f1 <- function(x) sqrt(x%*%x);
f2 <- function(x) (2x+1);
I would like to do something like
L <- List();
L[1] = f1;
L[2] = f2;
So, is there a way to create matrix or vector that can contains R object.

boxplot in subgroups
Hi,
I have data that looks like this:
ASA1 ASA2 C1_C2
C M 9.0225
S S 2.4315
M C 3.4894
M S 4.5282
C M 1.3183
C S 1.3735
S C 1.0488
S M 7.948
M C 4.5827
I need to plot Boxplots for a given ASA1 (either C,S, or M) with
respect to C1_C2. However, instead of one boxplot I want to plot
